Pretty cool..Cigarette boat owners rally at Redhead this weekend.
I have never seen so many Cigarette boats at the same place before.

Rob Wood did continue to race until 1993 but mostly in Canada. The boat, a Furnell Flyer, was brought back to Canada and repaired by Rob Scythes (Scycraft Racing). Not sure if Rob Wood ever drove it again as Rob Wood with his father Tom switched over to Velden hulls. The Furnell Flyer that got repaired was driven by Larry Everitt in 1990 (?) to a championship.

Perfect.

This is what got my dad, and our family into boating.

After two yrs in the navy in WWII my dad couldn’t afford much for a family activity.
Being an engineer, the #’s had to work.
So boating it was.

We/he had a 18’ plywood cuddy w/twin 1953 25 hp E Rudes and we spent every weekend on that boat.
No AC, no fridge, no mood lights, but we all survived and wouldn’t change a thing.

Boating as it used to be.

The Johnson GT 115 was introduced by OMC 1967. The most powerful outboard at that time..!!

1978 the Evinrude V6 2.448 cross-flow was bumped up to 235HP from 200. A new exhaust manifold was the big change.
I raced one rigged on a Argo 18 cat in the UIM Offshore Z class. Won a few races before a WOT crash and the beautiful painted Delicato/Argo was turned in to corn flakes.

In a flat water offshore race 1978 our average speed over 2 hours was 90 MPH. WOT at 7,000 RPM..great engine and the 0.20 pistons was much better for some reason.
