this may/not apply. my 2004 smart craft on a 200xs required a nmea 2.0 and a speed sentence that matched xxx.cc . the cc on newer gps use a 4 . .cccc number. i'm using a garmin 45 and a street pilot mono, this output the correct speed sentence.

Also depends on where he's picking up the speed info.... if there is no GPS on the boat, then it's taken from the pitot sensor on the engine. Most of the time, the pitot hole in the lower unit gets clogged (on leading edge above the bullet) or someone forgot to hook up the speedo hose last time the lower unit was put on.

dont know about the part is. on gps you need to ensure that its outputting nmea x.xx [depending on the need by the smartcraft system usually 2.0+.] . also be sure you are using a gps and not an antenna. a lot of people confuse the two. the antenna inputs to the gps [like a tv antenna]. they can both look like a computer mouse.
if that part is actually a digital pressure sensor, then the speed accuracy as equal tp pilot tube speedo [ not to good] and the avg mpg will be off. like wise the digital trim sensor is very slow to read on the SC guage. i went back to the on analog system.
im sorry. it took a lot of work to finally get the 2004 SC working. i got little help from merc and the deal didnt know a lot [he was a freind]. if you would like to talk feel free to call 206 369 3596.Last edited by hsbob; 04-21-2020 at 02:59 PM.

you first need to contact merc and determine what nmea version you need for your system and the format of the speed sentence needed.
with that info you can find a gps the outputs the correct info.
i would hope that from 2004 to today that mercury should have that info.
