"Right Stuff" and other sealants in place of gaskets??????
So there are a lot of BADa$$ sealants/adhesives on the market now. Black, gray, red, Right Stuff, etc. I have my powerhead off and about to be the adapter, too. Has anyone put these back together with adhesive/gasket maker instead of the big precut gaskets? Would be a bit of a pain to take back apart but this stuff sure works well in automotive applications.

Only gasket issues I’ve had has been at the exhaust port area on the power head gasket (9 times out ten find the adaptor to have a low spot in that area because of the temp differences). I always use the gaskets, if I’m dealing with the large rectangular exhaust ports I use the hi-po powerhead gasket that has the infused metal. If on the small square port, I will usually put a thin coat of ultra-copper around the exhaust port area on both sides of the gasket. I use the ultra-copper because of how well it performs in high heat situations.

Rite stuff is bad chit , just use a thin layer so the plates squeeze together and clamp down on top mounts correct , to much will leave a gap

I use gaskets only but if I think it could leak I'll use thin thin layer over gasket ,

Hey Merc, do you run the Cumberland for brown fish or do you ever get into the walleye and sauger? I used to catch a bunch below old hickory dam when I lived there.

"You saying in addition to gaskets? "
Yes but very sparingly. Just a thin layer like a coat of paint. If using in place of a gasket...very clean surfaces and a small bead...just enough to barely squeeze out. Never close to a water or oil passage way(Hole). This is what has worked for me use at your own discretion. Just like the Brylcreem jingle "Just a little dab will do ya, use more only if you dare!"
On my water pump gaskets this is what happens if I don't use the sealant as a glue to keep them intact(both sides).

I have used the permatex blue gasket dressing on lots of stuff. I use the copper permatex around the exhaust area also. Sealants can only help if used sparingly. Dressing allows things like t-stat gaskets to be removed and reused over and over.

I never use ultra copper on anything aluminum that might see salt. Even if called for in service manual. It corrodes the aluminum. Use the right gaskets, If surface is questionable i like aviation form a gasket coated on the gasket. It's like brown tar. Never really hardens, stays sticky.
