Rgsauger Don't mean to high jack..it's in context
Was that evinrude looper ?
I'm installing new mids will have plenty of relief but new and fresh paint DONT want to ruin it..
Maybe pump was a fluke? I've never dry started if I did would drop it and change pump...I don't even use the crappy fitting flushers even the newer orange ones suck
Did try them thought they would work..might work better on other stuff but didn't work well enough for me
I've always used hose w tubes
These will have plenty if relief between that and drilled lower and back of mids..
If everyone is saying it's fine looks like I'll be leaving them out too!
Want Evinrude OMC to chime in
Oh that bottom pic is when it started that's before it got bad looks like it's started to bubble from heat ran a blade over it knocked off the top of the bubbles

When I use a bass mid (stock) I drill the relief holes, five 1/2 holes on each side of the mid. Yes the paint fades and gets that chalky look, but with the relief holes drilled in the mid, haven't had any trouble with water pump melting. Just my 2cents

If your concerned about your mid getting too hot for your nice paint think i found the answer. i wrapped my tuner with some old thermo-tech header wrap from my drag racing days. i secured it with ss piano wire, starting from the adaptor working towards end, overlaping as i went. its not effected by water. most speed shops sell it. keeps the heat in, wear you want it. im thinkin, thumbs-up??

I'm not worried if I leave them in...rgsauger was asking taking them out then I thought about it but w/o exhaust liner is when I think it will burn... I will probably leave them in I have enough exhaust relief between the new mids drilled in back ,the offshore out the back and the lower unit drilled

SO...if I put a liner(what you guys are calling a can) in a 260 bass mid and direct all exhaust to the lower it won't hurt performance or hurt the motor and everyone on the lake will hate my boat less? LOL! As far as the paint goes, it just gets a chalky film on it. It's not really the paint itself that discolors.

Thats where it's confusing..talking about a different animal..lol.
On mine the paint bubbled and burned but again it's an evinrude different exhaust flow?
I've got plenty more exhaust relief with new mids...w/o the liner would probably be better on mine with what's been done and no airboxes..will have to make a decision soon..
And NO WAY do I care about the neighbors hell you should here my truck all stainless custom exhaust long tube headers High flow cats and Corsa muffler loud as hell.. luckily I couldn't stand the neighbors before so parked with exhaust facing his house would wait till 7:00 to make the school run w my daughter the rest of neighbors were at work or left but drove them nuts..lol..told him guess you shouldn't of let that tree fall on my garage then started running the boat up there on the hose.

Maybe I'll do some testing with a heat gun, torch and the ir-gun see what happens when I heat it up to 180-200 or so
On another mid first..easy enough to go with an old mid off...just have to paint it the same day as the lowers paint only lasts 24 after you start w it.

No way I'm drilling the back of the mid!
It sounds like a bunch of the Promax's were drilled down bottom from the factory with the 5 - 1/2" holes on each side of the lower. Even though it's not very thick, could probably tap them enough to get an allen plug in from the bottom if you wanted to close if off.1990 Shadow bass boat w/ 2.4 200 Merc.
