Mariner is still sold in foreign markets - it has always had a following overseas even when it was a Japanese built product stopping at 60 hp. Mariner stateside was to combat the Johnson/Evinrude market, it gave an opportunity to plunk a Mariner dealer down the street from an OMC dealer and not upset (well, maybe a little) the local Mercury dealer in the same town. Service parts were a bi__h, always had too many of one color and not enough of the other - had local body shops repainting cowls, gearcases, etc.
