If the ski is one that is very concave on the bottom they are hard to pull up. Start with a nice flat ski bottom on other foot to get up and drop it. Long time ago I ran a 16 checkmate with 135 inline had no problem pulling skiers, even deep water start bear footers but I had a ski bar in boat to get rope up in the air, much easier to get up with.

LOL... a good skier can get up behind anything! I learned to ski back in the 60's, when men were men. Behind a canoe. Slalom, drop and barefoot.

In that case my brother is the best skier lol.

We tried with just the driver and skier and no luck. The ski is somewhat concave, its an obrien siege. Unfortunately dropping a ski is not the best option on my normal lake(river), and would like to avoid it.

Seals and taper were most likely checked when it was went through but Im not sure, hopefully thats not it. Idle timing is set to 5 atc, as per the sticker.
I found a decent deal on a 15 so may give it a rip.

Thanks for the help so far!

Use one foot in front boot only and tell him to focus on keeping the ski straight and knee bent and use his other leg to push down on the water for more lift. Pushing the shin down like a ski. Knee to chest focus on straight and weight over ski push with leg and hold on

A good DRIVER can get anybody up with a 15 or may be a 25 if hes bigin... get out most of the slack get to a point about 90-120 deg from the direction you want to go, get the boat on plane circling the skier slowly straighten out on course and either he gets up or the rope breaks..this works amazing for barefootin without drinking half the lake. Yup, or if real good just helm to hard to starboard and ski hard to port with a bit of slack first.

OK Cap, splain this to me, how do you get transmission seals over the crank or do you split them with a razor blade or what???? Do you have to cut a groove in the reed cage, any pics to better explain this??? mark

I had a 1979 merc 1150 on a boat (invader) like pictured below, and I weighed about 200 lbs at that time and it would pop me out of the water in about 5 seconds. That was with 2-3 other adults in the boat. If your 115 cannot pull up a slalom skier, either they are really big and heavy or something is wrong with your motor. In that same boat I was able to pull 2 adults on tubes with a boat load of adults. We were well over boat capacity and that old invader was one heavy tub. It took a bit to get on plane, but it did it.

Not sure what kind of ignition system you have on yours, but mine had a cap and rotor that was not available for replacement at a decent price. So every year I would clean the contact points on cap and rotor with a cotton cloth and aluminum polish. It was always pretty well corroded and cleaned up pretty well.

I have nothing more to add other then good luck. That motor on your boat should jump right up on plane, even with a slalom skier in tow.

Not to hijack this thread, but I was thinking of trying skiing next summer with our 1987 2.0l 150hp in this boat:

    It's 18 feet.

Think this ought to work for deep water starting a single ski? Not a skinny competition ski. Just a wide recreational ski.

Do you know what prop pitch you were running?

I have the newer adi ignition instead of the distributor, and everything checks out on it.

If you have a dva meter check the voltage to the red wires on the switch boxes as you accelerate..and then the white and black wires.
