Not legal for SE in APBA then. 73 was the last year that Mercury was able to compete in SE in the US.

Well, the UIM SE class was dominated by the Carniti 65 HP engine and no other outboard could keep up with this pretty special outboard. Very advanced with a nose cone water pick up etc.
UIM allowed this engine and Merc, Evinrude/Johnson and Konig drivers could not keep up with Erik Braaten in his Schulze/Carniti 65..
..OMC put an end to that 1973 with the new Evinrude/Johnson 65SS and I got the honor to beat Erik Braaten in Lappeenranta 1973.
The picture show Erik Braaten, the European SE class Champion 1972 in his Schulze HydroCat.
Erik was extremely upset after my victory 1973

ID:	444598This is a picture of the start of an elimination heat at the 73 APBA Nationals. Notice the mix of motors Mercurys and both OMC brands. Mercury prevailed this year but that was the end of it.

Nice, but you did not have any Carniti 65..that engine was way more powerful then the Merc and OMC in the picture.

The Carnitis and the Konigs were not approved to race in OPC in the US at any time in my memory. The only Konigs we saw were in the PRO alcohol classes.

EVINRUDE HOUSE FLOAT CONCEPT – while many of Brooks Stevens concept boats were a bit far out, this this one actually showed promise. In fact, a few Pontoon manufactures like Sun Tracker and Lowe actually built very similar boats. There's no record of this House Float ever being built.

Is not every day you see a SeaRay boat with Evinrude E-TEC power, but I found one yesterday.

Here is a few pictures of the Evinrude SS (boat #22) and Johnson 65

What a cool engine. I can't believe I didn't know about it as I was all about OMCs during this time period. Was it only sold in Europe?

Well..there was three Johnson 65 SS in boxes at the Swedish Johnson distributor AGB all summer 1973. AGB purchased those engines from OMC for drivers in Sweden, but they made the big mistake signing up for Merc 65 instead when the Johnson engines was delayed from the factory.
The 65 SS was useless the year after (1974). The new OMC UIM SE class engine with the nitro gear case was for me over 14 MPH faster.
