Any info on ETEC G2 Bigger than 300hp ?

With the increasing popularity of huge center consoles with multiple big outboards, I was wondering if anybody knows if Evinrude will come out with a 350 or 400 to stay competitive in that market segment ? I asked Evinrude guys last year at the Miami show and zero info was available.

I think brp is at a crossroads. It would be a hard decision to spend a lot of development money building a 350-400 hp etec when 2 strokes are being phased out. But if they switch to 4 stroke they would appear to have been misleading all these years about advantages of the 2 stroke. In all likelihood, this decision was probably made years ago and we will find out the direction they chose in the next couple of years.

Love to see through the walls at what's on the dyno. Maybe a big ci v6 or what everyone wants to see, the v8. Maybe two different versions, a lower tuned, ported big tractor for the heavy loads and a higher rpm lighter load high performance version. Many possibilities to consider from outside the door.
A few boat manufacturers stepping up with package deals would help.

    We've been waiting on a 400 hp V-8 E'Tec for 15 yrs.

I have heard nothing but agree w/Mikes crossroads comment.

They just donated a boat load (more than anyone before) of G-2's to the mechanic schools which leads me to believe theyre not selling them.
Tax write off and cut their losses or flush the inventory through the system before releasing something new??

I really thought I would like the new Merc V-8 but after seeing one in person a couple days ago??
Not so much. They are freaking ginormous!

I want to see one hanging from a fish scale to validate their weight claims.
I think Randy Corson did that though???

Id love a pair of 300 XSs for my Checkmate but I wouldnt take the V-8s for free.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Yeah a V8 two stroke ETEC would be amazing. I heard that the earlier G2 3.4 blocks had bosses for power valves, but that the more recent ones don’t, can anybody confirm ? That would hint that this block is not planned for that level of development/power. Is there much room to make it bigger ? Are the sleeves thick ?

Gary IMO the donations to the service schools is to help with the lack of qualified service tech's.

My thought was that that was a ton of motors/$ to give away for a company not making much money.
I know what corporate said but....., if you were stuck w/a bunch of inventory you couldn’t move......., write it off and turn it to a PR project.
They look good doing it and hope the competition doesn’t realize what they’re doing.

Matt, I have a source that said they had power valve mules running but the additional cost put them on hold until the standard G-2 platform proved itself in the marketplace.
    And I don’t think that’s happened.

Report was the powe valve gave killer torque and mid range.

A power valve would make a lot of sense for an outboard. Have your cake and eat it too so to speak. But I guess it is one more thing that could fail.

If they would like to donate a 300 to me, I'll make sure to talk about how great the G2 is

It is a servo controlled guillotine valve in the exhaust port that effectively changes port timing based on RPM.

My '1985 Yamaha RZ 350 road bike had them.
It changed the previous model RD 350 from being a pipey, narrow power band bike to a good all around bike that was still a rocket @ 6K+.

Putting them in a v-6 though, is difficult and expensive.
Plus a way worse operating environment.

getting a power valve to continue working on an engine that can hold the throttle for many hours is not something a sled or bike can ever do, so there are some other issues with powervalves on an outboard

Power valves would be sweet but if the reliability isn’t there then so be it.

I don’t want to ever be in a position where I have to buy a Merc but I see on the horizon where I’ll grow tired of dealing with carbed V8s and want a new 350+ hp motor. Don’t need it immediately but it’s coming lol.

would old school injection in a v8 keep you going?
Monty got some nice updates although I think a 2x 4 cyl horns would do the job nicely?

Sure it would be nice to have an etec kit for old carby engines

    Hey Power,
Yeah I have thought about going down the EFI route, the original manufacturer of the MAD ECUs (Simple Digital Systems) is 45 min from me. I’m a Long way away from a project that big however, still lots to do on the boat.
