I tried a comparison with a 16 k1500 Sub, same motor. Had it for a couple weeks, 91 Shell no alc did better by a amount that was better than the price difference, not by much but it was good to see the numbers on the dash.

Damn, driving in Ft. Lauderdale sounds worse than driving in N.O.

A couple from my past.
Towed the first Sonic w/a '69 Polara rag top w/a 383.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.
Checkmate 16' 140 Johnson
Hydrostream 17' Vector FrankenRude I
Laser 480 (?) 21' w/GT 200
Glastron Carlson Conquest w/XP 2.6
Glastron Carlson CVX 20 w/XP 2.6
24' Sonic w/twin 250 Johnsons

The rag top was fun but not for weekends.
The top folded into the trunk and took up most of its space.
I sold it after putting the top down one time and hearing the rear window shatter on my tool box in the trunk.
Next in line was the infamous "econo tow pigg".
Chevy passenger van w/a smog version 305 V-8. Perfect other than that.
$500. from e-bay but was in Wisconsin and I was in Cols.
$39 plane ticket later, I was in Wisconsin. Picked up the van, spent a night in Wisconsin drinking in Balzys garage drooling on his and Steve A's GORGEOUS HST's.
Drove it back to Cols, yanked the turd motor, sold it and bought a 300 hp Jasper 350 off Craigslist for $500.
Called Jegs and ordered an RV cam, headers and a dual exhaust system.
Then bought a 3.73 posi from the local bone yard.
Started the motor change and the manual said I had to disassemble the front end for the change.
I hated that idea, reminded myself I paid $500 for it and shoved it through the door.
Loved that thing.
towed the first Sonic wayyy into Ontario w/that van.
Camped in it, tested w/it, etc, etc.
I love the shot in front of the bar.
We'd tow the Sonic the 2 1/2 hrs from Cols to Lake Erie and if the lake was too rough to put the boat in when we got there (happened a lot) we'd do the "Lake Erie Bar Tour" and crash in the boat at the last stop.
That place was perfect.
Great bar w/bands, great food, dark parking lot for sleeping, breakfast restaurant in same parking lot and ramp was a mile away after breakfast.
The dog slept in the van.
HUGE fun per dollar in that van.Last edited by Instigator; 02-05-2019 at 06:54 PM.

Had this in Fla.
I think '2000??
Early GM 1/2 ton w/a 5.3 and a very nice glass cap. Great truck.
Figured out if I put 2x6s in the notches in the bed liner, it was the perfect level for a sheet of plywood and an inflatable bed and had room under underneath for a cooler, grill, chairs and a porta potti!
The ultimate econo camper.
Just cuz ur broke dont mean you cant have fun.
Was our early days in Fla when we were broke.
Pulled the 2nd Sonic to the Keys when we could afford it and to River Ranch and boat races all over Fla when we couldnt.
Another one that was HUGE fun per dollar and great fun.Last edited by Instigator; 02-05-2019 at 06:57 PM.

This was/is my favorite and wish I still had it.
Also, I think, a '2000.
Vortec 350 and a 3.73 posi, It was a beast.
For the Sonic anyhow.
80 on cruise for 3 1/2 hrs to the Keys every time we could get away w/it. (after we were done being broke)
Other times we drove it down by itself and camped in it.
For travelling/towing,passenger vans are my favorite.
Enough room and head room passengers can get up and move around. Even driver if youre VERY careful
Put a porta potti in back. On banzai trips you only make it as long as your weakest link.
Unless youre in a van.
Had 3 bench seat but I only used the forward two.
Seats came out w/no tools for hauling supplies, motors etc.
I had a suburban and liked it but not as much as a good van.
I had a mid/late '90's one ton passenger van w/a 454 but was pre vortec days and was a turd.
Great chassis but the black van would pull it backwards
Id like to have that back just for long trips.Last edited by Instigator; 02-05-2019 at 06:58 PM.
