but the bottom does look different and the way the water wicks away from the steps!

disclaimer: I know nothing about hull bottom design

my not-so-professional observation about the steps is that the steps are not just working horizontal to the hull's length, but also to the hull's cross-sectional length

if you zoom in on the pic, why is the water not only moving towards the transom, BUT ALSO OUTWARDS (or away from the tunnel)

Good observation Noli-

Congrats to Scott and Nick for a perfect weekend and no mechanical issues. As for sand bagging, I am glad they ran out in front of the entire field yesterday. They have been required to make changes because of the other guys in the class, proven to not be cheating, so now I say "take no prisoners" and show them just how bad you are able to drive off on them.

Since the boat is shaped like a wing. My guess is there are some vortices, not sure that's spelled right. Wing tip vortices same as airplane.
That or the boat is moving down towards water in the picture, and air pressure is being forced out any direction it can, taking the spray with it.
Hope I explained that right.
