I've seen tower of powers, OMC, 2L, 2.4, 2.5 and 3L in the outboard classes.

Got my 2.4 together and put about 4hrs on it trying to break it in. Feels very responsive and strong. Ran short on weather and time but I was able to make one short pull with the timing retarded and running fat (94 jets).

BUT a Nordic with a 1350 can. So yeah.

If I could find a beater Mod-Vp STV to bolt a 2 liter on... maybe.
Yeah, I think they make the rules up to keep the GN guys happy. I mean... who puts a 1350 in a boat and thinks it would have a chance against a stock 3.0L outboard? I had a long conversation on the phone with someone I was told "wrote the rules" and his explanation was insurance. When I poked a hole in that thought process since the GPS determines speed legality, I was told it was a "Safety Issue". Ummmmm... when does running a motor 1+" BELOW the pad make it safer when the speed is limited by other means? Imagine if you are running 8-12+" of setback!! Or an Allison? OMFG!!

Yea it's true .... none of them guys want to lap an outboard boat with little skeg in the water and have him start driving over his head and hook it right in front of him in the slop .. Then you have to thread the needle if your lucky ... hit a parked boat if your not ... or worst of all , run over an ejected driver that is "stuck" on the surface that can't swim very fast with all his "safety" gear on.

Chaz = thinkin after the first lap , ain't much of nuttin in the water .. and only 3 hrs 56 min to go ..

I don't remember hooking boats in MVP ,(except for the Venus that I changed the pad to 12 inches) or Allison's for that matter.

No doubt .. not a lot you can do to make a 4x8 sheet of plywood with a big block safer except for put the driver in a capsule.... but then , that's not legal ..

Chaz = thinkin I'm an outboard guy ( two stroke outboard ) at heart .. so don't shoot the messenger ....

    Div IV GN(grand national)
They can run a 525 CI fuel injection or carb or
    475 CI blown gas.

I believe these GN's run 100 gal or more fuel tanks to complete each 3rd of the race.
To my knowledge GN's don't have a very good history of finishing this race.

Each time I've post this event the thread will usually go in the direction of what's fair and unfair. I'm not part of the rules committee nor would I want to be. I race this historic race because I enjoy putting a boat togather and my family and friends/pit crew look forward to it.

I'm a budget racer and this scratches that itch

I didn't realize that those v drives were still running. Thought they were the boat equivalent of a wall hanger.

well to put it bluntly, it is a class of inboard boats that will make most outboards climb back up into their high chairs and cringe. watch this video and see outboards go by like mopeds on the highway. now that is not to be said some formula 1 o/b's can't haul the mail, but in slop these guys are tough to compete against ,,,
