    86' Mariner lower 2.0 or 1.87 ?

    Hello , Did the Mariner 2.4 175 Come with a 2.0 or 1.87 lower unit ? I have been told 1.87 and read some where a 2.0.......

    production motors..............

    99% of tha time 2 liter motors were 2 ta 1's standard.. 2.4's were 1:87's standard ('cept xr4's)…

    forgot!!! need ta "qualify" that statement... its merc so nothin' "is written in stone"...…..

    Back then i thought they 2.4 where 2.0 and the 200 2.5 was the 1.87

    135 and 150 were 2.0 and 2:1, 175 and 200 were 2.4 and 1.87. Exception was the XR4 which was 2.4 150 and 1.78:1 small gearcase. AFAIK anyways.

    As with everything Merc there are always exceptions and they used what they had. If they needed to ship a 2.4 and were out of 1.87’s they would have just slapped a 2:1 on it and sent it out the door!
