Well, I took an old boat and made it all current with new interior, hydraulic steering, 2012 Optimax 150, oil injection, new gauges but I will never get what I have in it back out of it either.

But then again my other boat is a 1979 Taylor 21' Stiletto I hope to have complete some day.

That looks sharp but the chine walk likely adds some challenge to speed passes?

Everybody says that for some reason. Most I am sure never owned one. Truth is, any motor will burn a lot of fuel if you run the piss out of it. I was getting almost 5 MPG with my 235 on an Allison SS. There are plenty of parts. Plus I have had mine for almost 30 years, and I have only burned it down once and that was MY FAULT!!!

The 81 may be fitted with the thicker head gaskets. But I didn't have a problem with thin gaskets. Don't run the timing high (max 26 degrees) and run premium fuel ONLY with good oil and you will be fine. I have been running these motors for years. Don't listen to the Merc guys!!!

The Merc bias is strong with many, and I can appreciate the awesomeness of Mercury, I own some. I can also say my 115 cross flow gets WAYYYYYY better mileage than this 135 2.0L Merc im playing with now. Plus those V4's sound sooooo good when wrung right out. Definitely screaming, the V6 sound is ok, not stellar, but the V8? Yeeee gads man, baaaaaadness.
Trick is have fun, ignore haters, build and buy whatever you want for your own reasons OP. If you do or dont buy the boat your looking at? Be a gent and share the info once you have made your decision, this thread has earned that I think.Hydrostream dreamin

235 OMC was the top of the line. OMC s are light die cast motors.... not lost foam stuff. Both have issues... then get into sand cast. Any way.... back in the Dazzz in a lost time in a lost world In NY Mr Ted bravo ran a 235 with nox....Hardgave had one with even fire ? musta been a crank with off set jornnels....WHO members the time....1981. You all have been very helpful and kind to do your best to answer even when you need or would like more information than I have provided. I’m truly greatful for the support. I need another few days to confirm some costs before I finalize and will share either way. I fully expect to get teased for my bad decision then.

I can still remember the first time I saw a 235, I argued with this other whipper snapper that there was no such thing. Well we went for a littie ride down the lake and low and behold there it was, hanging off the back of some kind of white glass rocket looking boat ( no clue what the boat was ) but I surely remember that motor. Even more crazy I can remember CLEAR AS GLASS the first time I saw a V8 Evinrude, blew my mind then, put it on my bucket list so you know, one day

First time I ever saw a Bridgeport was hanging off a Stream going full kill at my buddies cottage. I swear that thing was screaming 10,000RPM it was insane. Local Marina owned it, bucket list one of them too, got a boat for it now

Update, I've decided to pass on the boat
So here is the boat if anyone else is still interested
1981 21' Checkmate
https://nwga.craigslist.org/boa/d/19...613788083.html
And more about it.
The origional owner who sold the boat a few years ago bought it unrigged from the dealer. He is a airplane mechanic(retired) so he rigged it for himself and babied it the whole time. The second owner is a neighbor and friend of the son of the first owner.
The only issues with the boat are the darker color of the seat vinyl is fading, there a 3 mild scratches in the hull, two small cracks around the splash well that have been sealed up and one small spider crack area likely from a bump against the dock. The boat was hand pinstriped in paint by a pro, The work looks good but dated and the second owner started buffing it out. Otherwise the boat is spotless and original everywhere.
He has a second complete fully built and dressed (everything including the starter) powerhead that could be sold with the boat too as the mechanic owner felt he needed to be ready if the first motor ever went. Both powerheads have typical upgrades like boysen reeds plus other stuff I didn’t get into.
He will bend on the price a little and I wanted to buy it but I would replace the vinyl, So in Canadian dollars and with the distance involved I would be well past $15,000. I’m still tempted, but I’m moving on.
I think the boat could be used as is quite well, but really think it’s a cool candidate for a new 250r. Since it’s pre oil injection there is no oil filler hole in the hull to cover or fix. But it would be a lot of money and really pricey to do in Canada right now.
I hope this helps someone, if you live close you can likely get it for $8500 maybe a touch less, He wants $1500 for the second powerhead as an add on.08 Checkmate 2100br 250xs

That's the smoking deal you were trying to hide from us ? Well one week ago I bought from Wisconsin a 1998 mirage ski racer 4 seater with alum trailer and a fresh 225 mariner promax with sporty also just rebuilt, runs great easy 100mph boat for 10,000 even. Now that's a bargain. Not trying to bust your balls but that boat aint worth no 9800.00

I may be slow but im ahead of you. *hit's only ankle deep but you went in head first.

Never said it was a deal, quite the opposite, I said it was not a bargain.
What I like that can’t be found very often is a mint, sporty 21 foot bow rider in full metalflake gelcoat.08 Checkmate 2100br 250xs
