2 stroke oil POLL
I've been reading about all the conflicting info and opinions about 2 stroke lubricants for outboards.
So I decided to post a poll to see what's actually being used in 2018.
Vote and post!

Pennzoil when it's at Sam's cheap but usually Super Tech (also from Shell Oil) ordered through WM on-line otherwise.

Used to use Suzuki (as I am a Suzuki dealer) but when they quit selling 2 stroke oil I started using Super Tech and has been working great.

Quicksilver premium plus @ 40:1 in my ‘79 175. I turn it 6,800-7,200 pretty regularly and no problems. Still has 5 original pistons in it.

Quicksilver plus. Also really like the Alisyn on my hi pos. (all but the smell, kinda funky, but really good results on wear and carbon build up prevention. So I can live with smell)

I’ve never had good luck with royal purple anything. I’ve seen sevral things let go after being filled with the stuff. First time was the motor in a Nissan Maxima. Normal oil change and the poor thing didn’t last a week. Saw an industrial gear box grind itself to bits after being filled with the stuff. Those units usually live for 40+ years. A buddy’s 2 stroke dirt bike bit the dust 5 minutes after being run with their 2 stroke oil. That’s just the short list. All the failures were lubricant related.
I usually try to buy local and Royal Purple is a Texas company but I’m scared of the stuff. I cringe every time I see someone using it. I had a lubricant engineer explain why it’s no good to me at a plant I was in once but it was chemical stuff that’s over my head!
I’m sure there are people out there who have had good luck with the stuff, but I’ll not be running it in ANYTHING of mine!!!Josh Peterson

When I had Diamond Marine rebuild my 2.5/200 at about 500 hours, Marty called me and said, "I don't know what kind of oil you're using, but keep using it. The motor is tired, but it's not even bad enough to over bore - and the bearings look great. We're just going to hone it." That was enough for me. The oil I'd been using (and still use) is Penzoil Full Synthetic.

I can read the label. I’ll still run super tech before I’ll run anything purple!

Never had any problem what so ever with RP other than the cost got out of hand. Went back to Bean oil for my coated motors. Been using cabelas 10 bucks a gallon on sale oil like crazy, but I see they hiked the price on it so depending if it goes on sale again I'll prolly go back to Penzoil Semi from Wally Worlds.
