Australia to ban sale of 2 stroke outboards

    Hi everyone,

here in Australia they are going to ban the sale of new car by 2 stroke outboards. I’m a little concerned because I have lots of outboards and also parts from 2 stroke carny engines. They are only naming the sale of new ones (you can still keep your old ones) but I’m curious if my collection of engines and parts will be worth very little after this happens.

I know in the states you guys have had similar restrictions (but more strict). What has happened to the price of these engines?

Just trying to work out out if I should sell my motors now while I will still get something for them?

    would appreciate any opinions.

they are just catching up to the rest of the world...
the world 2 stroke doesnt exist in the law ( nor does it in Europe or the USA) just emissions but a carby 2 stroke wont meet any rules
    http://www.environment.gov.au/protection/air-quality/emissions-standards/outdoor-power-equipment-and-marine-engines

I think this piece of legislation is everything 19kw and under to catch all the small stuff like weed wackers etc?
No import from 1 july 2018, no retail sale 1 july 2019
Big list of exemptions and reasons can be no alternative and competition use.

Seams kind of odd that Evinrude E-TEC is the reported to be cleanest running motor on the market and it is 2 stoke. Goverment's Al this for .03 percent of the polutian in the world. What about plastic bags. BAN THE DRUM LOUDLY and people jump to over fix it.

At least they are not forcing you to sell them to the government like they did with guns!

You say just the carb motors? Not many of them are sold anymore anyway. Optimax motors still legal?

I keep seeing that Australia banned guns a few years ago and crime went up. Is that true?

Go ahead and hang on to all those parts and motors...the ban will cause the price of your parts to go up due to people needing to fix theirs rather than buy in the 4 stroke crap.

hey australia, i used to look up to you because of my perception of your independent, self sufficient people. maybe the dundee types and natives are outnumbered now? anyway, the path you're on doesn't look promising. no guns, no 2strokes, etc.. when did the communists take over?

The Australian regulations will mirror the current EPA regulations. Two-strokes are not banned - only new ones that exceed the emission outputs that we have here in America.

That makes sense, I have no problem with some regulations. Clearly they wouldn't ban an engine emitting less emissions. The latest 2-strokes are phenomenal, super efficient. If only those G2's weren't so heavy.
