Mercury has sold so many 3/3.2 liter 2 stokes that parts are going to be available for a long time even when Mercury stops making them. So I don’t think we have much to worry about there.
When the replacement for the 250/300xs is announced, then you guys can cry if you want too. I don’t think Mercury is going to abandon the bass boat guys, so I think there will be a sporty available on something and if it’s this motor with a charger or something else you/we will likely be able to use it and it will out perform what we have.
Just might not sound or smell the same. I think I can live with that. Every time I start my old muscle car with its carb, I can’t believe how ripe it smells, leaves the garage stinking for days. I don’t hate the smell, but I don’t love it like I use to either. Once you quit smoking, smelling cigarette smoke stinks too. I think many/most will get over the smell and sound of a 2 stoke.
For those that can’t, I really do think the aftermarket will supply parts for a long time on the most popular platforms. There will be money to be made so it will happen.08 Checkmate 2100br 250xs

Plan on relying on the aftermarket when Merc stops the 3.0/3.2, because as someone who has owned Merc’s original 3.4L (produced from roughly 83-94), they shut down the parts line on that motor about 5 minutes after they shut down the assembly line, and plenty of parts have had this weird “NLA” for price in the parts book for years....
I know if they kill the 3.0/3.2, when mine goes out of warranty, it’s going up for sale.

I was told the mechanical shift is not really mechanical.... the shift cable is hooked to a switch that controls an electric actuator that does the shifting..... and that acuator in under water..... let's see how long that lasts.

Didn't the old (60's) johnrudes have that feature? I remember it being a failure with the "push button" shift feature.

Yes..
I had a 70s?(looked was 60s) 85hp with electric shift..long story short you should see the look on are faces when it decided to slam into gear at 5000rpm when we were checking the motor..
But damn thing lasted years...not that it failed either just happened once..Last edited by mrichartz; 02-23-2018 at 06:53 PM. Reason: Old age sight
