Evinrude has been doing these unfair comparison tests for ever. And as for a long lasting motor, I have yet to see any motor out last and perform better than my merc opti's. The 3.0 efi's, 2.5's were bullet proof too. I run a charter business and can't have any problems with my equipment.

Agree on 3.0 efi was a great engine ,opti air pumps have left lots of people stranded but not a bad engine though and hate to see it pass ... A very good friend is a large brp dealer here in the south, has sold many g2s, we talk often and not hearing about any real issues from him.. Guys can run what you want but fact is mother merc will go all 4 stroke very soon. Already No more cleavers from merc,No more 2.5s, if they drop the smaller case sportmasters there will be nothing left to work with and parts will dry up quick ... Everyone should be glad evinrude/brp is in the good old USA and making something on a current 2stroke platform with a bullet proof omc bottom end.... Anyone ran a small 15-20hp 4 stroke lately... complete pigs compared to an etec. They can keep the 2 stroke alive... Dave

Just how hard is it to change a compressor , can you sit on the back and do one?

I bought three 2005 250 xs motors but have yet to mount one.

It's not difficult to change one out. About like doing an alternator. There are two braided hoses that have oetiker clamps on them, but in a pinch reg clamps could be used. Sometimes when they go you get contamination in the hoses and air rails. That has to be cleared out. A re-prime of the oil inj should be done also.

The evolution of the outboard is going the wrong way, instead of making lighter and more efficient boats and engines they are building bigger and more fuel consuming monstrosities... It is like the 4-stroke is a unicorn using less fuel and making less CO2 emissions but still runs the same power as the DI 2-stroke? What bs! Keep the car engines inboard!

I've compared two and four stroke 20-25 Merc. A neighbor bought one on a 14 tin. I ran it and went right back to the dock. I guess it's a situation of you can't miss what you don't know. The buyer had no idea what the 25merc two stroke was like. I have a 25 on a 14 wide deep and it is just two different animals in comparison. My 15 Johnson would be a better comparison in top speed but it's the acceleration, part throttle response etc as well.
And pull starting, my 25 is on with two pulls every time , every year. The four stroke pulls weird, almost fake, hate how it turns over and that stupid sound, like a cow mooing with its mouth closed.
