Yamaha v. Evinrude test
Not sure if many here care since this isn't high performance but it is Outboard related. (sorry, embed won't work for this video)

They have awesome power, my friend has a 29 wellcraft and with the same props it uses with both motors one engine will put his boat on plane with the other trimmed out of the water.. Most people are in denial..Dave

Very Impressive indeed .
I wish they had a Mercury included in the test.
May the best win, no mater who makes it.

johnrude 2 stroke, yammi 4 stroke? Try an opti against a johnrude.....Be a more fair comparison. E-tec would be the winner I expect. With a 2.17-1 vs the opti at 1.78-1. Also the e-tec has a little more displacement. This just shows how weak a 4-s yammi is.

Ain't it great to have papa TRUMP back at the helm?

My theory is that the Evinrude G2 is for big boats. 2.17 gears and a lot of weight. If I bought a new Rude it would be a small block G1.
Why do people buy 4 strokes?

Why do people buy 4 strokes?[/QUOTE]
Because it's not 19__ anymore / everything is always changing, if we ever come up with better / longer lasting batteries ... you know it's coming .

Sure it's 2018, but why would I buy an inferior product?

I`ve said it before and I`ll say it again, Four strokes of equal hp and c.i. have no chance against a two stroke. This has been proven in motorcycle racing. Four strokes have to be twice as big or have some sort of boost.
One quick question: I have never seen any type of comparative testing of Honda outboards against anything. Have ya`ll?

Because the 4 stroke will last 4 times longer and despite BRP's marketing prowess real life is far different in terms of reliability. Obviously for our performance minded segment the 2-stroke wins on smaller lighter boats but if you look at guys like SuperBender there are applications where the 4s excels even on a performance boat.
Why doesn't everyone run a merc 260 on a performance boat?? same thing...'08 SRV

4 strokes last longer? Could be true, but someone on another thread says the SHOs don't last
https://www.screamandfly.com/showthr...-stroke-rumors
Even I won't run a 260, that I get.
6 years in our 115 HO Etec is the best motor ever. Of course 1 is an insignificant sample size.

I have not seen a Honda comparison....BUT at a weak moment in my life I was searching for a good deal on a little inshore fishing boat. Pro-Line had a deal 0% financing by Honda if you purchased a new Pro-line with a Honda. That was the first new boat and first new engine I ever purchased. That Honda was the worst under powered engine on the face of the earth. It was so bad!!!! I ended up trading the engine for a clean Merc XR4

I think there were some issues with the first SHO's starving for oil in extreme bass boat situations. As a rule in real boating situations we see 4-strokes last many times longer than the comparable 2-stroke (opti or whatever). Now when a 4-stroke fails it's WAY more money but they are few and far between. The failure rate of G2 in our area is staggering but who knows if they all come from the same dealer or some other unforeseen issue that effects 75% of them.
We have merc 90's with 4000hours on them in a commercial application and sure they probably won't plane a boat as quick as an ETEC but they're still going on nothing more than oil changes and fuel filters. That's why people buy them. They are not inferior in terms of everything but possibly holeshot. There is good reason why BRP wants to be able to plane a boat with one engine trimmed up

My best friend owns 2 marinas in Michigan and he said the G2s are bottom of his list. He used to sell them but got sick of upset customers when their new stuff kept breaking and blowing up. One customers 250 blew up twice in 8 hours... Both his original powerhead and replacement. Both times cylinder number 6 due to an oiling issue.
He used to send me those videos all the time of the E-rude tests like that.
