How to lift a 91 mercury

As stated above I'm trying to go about the best way of doing this. I see they have a lifting eye you can buy that connects to the fly wheel but is there another way to lift it. I'm sorry its a 1991 black max 150. All my omc have little lifting ears that work great.

Ok will do. I've never done it like that but I'm looking to learn. I guess you pop the fly wheel nut off Then screw the threaded eye in? I was reading the newer mercury have a rubber cap that pops off then screw the threaded eye in.

The lifting ring tools are hollow in the center to allow it to go over the nut. If you take the nut off, you will lift only the flywheel, not the entire motor. So, yes, please leave the nut on. This ebay seller has a nice tool. Threads are cut well. Not sure it will fit your year, but it's 1.5 inch x 16tpi and fit my 2002 200 perfectly. There are other sellers with crappy threads.

It will fit just fine and be the best $23 you spend. Definitely leave the nut on.

You cant hardly get the flywheel off without a puller when you want to but lift one without a nut and I'm sure it would slip right off ! Good luck.

Come over to the Amite river with me , Forbes , coupe and a few others. Mike.
