Turning 6100 rpm's
I have a 1995 135 merc carbed and WOT im turning 6100 rpm's swinging a 23m prop, tried a 25m but it would only turn it 5300 rpm's and i lost 5 mph gps. Was wondering if turning 6100 is going to kill my little 2.0 litre 135.. I have a 1989 17'6" champiom bass boat and running 60 mph gps with the 23M...

Not hardly, if you want to wake it up on that little boat find some 200 carbs, tuner and cut the heads to 30 cc's.

I was under the impression the tuner was the same for 135 150 175 and 200 on the 2.0 litre..

Carbs were the biggest bang for the buck on my old 135.

Capt -for me and other "2.0 rookies", how about a casting number for that desirable 200 Tuner and how I can identify which carbs I have now and which ones I want to find? I need to go to my local dealer's bone-yard with wrenches in hand and pull parts, but need guidance......
Thanks, Gordon

I try to use wh 39 or 46's on the 2 liters with 76 or 78 mains. Doesn't matter which carbs you have now, they are either tiny or super tiny venturies. Just spent 7 hours in the er with my girlfriend and i'm knackered so I'll get back to you on the rest.

I wanted to get a jump on the A/B questions....
Here's the A -
The exhaust tuner is # 41942-c which shows as standard for this V-135, the XR2-150, V-175, and the V-200 Jet. The part number is not the one showing on the V-200 prop outboard (not at all clear on that one.
The carburetors are stamped with 2 different sets of numbers - none of those matching part numbers I find in these pages nor the parts fiche I use at Boats.net. Am I looking in the wrong places? I went all over the bank of 3 carburetors and these are all I could see.
Here are photos that might mean something to you smart guys.....

That's what i have found also on the tuners, i would be happy with 175 hp..i have wh 1 carbs on now i think..
I was told that turning my 135 6100 it would not last long is why i asked and from what i can gather from looking at parts books i have a 2.5 block with 2.0 sleeves and pistons.

I don't worry much about turning a looper beyond 6,000. I've got several friends that have and still do turn 6,200, 6,500, even 7,000 rpm on these older V6 Mercurys after removing the limiters. The old cross-flow design and those heavy topped pistons have a different problem and I won't spin those as high. I've got a 200 ProMax SS (short-shaft) with JSRE heads on my Allison XB2002 that I bought brand new back in 1999 and I've turned it 6,800 rpm many, many times. I feed it a diet of non-ethanol 93 octane and always wait until it's at full operating tetomp before I push the pedal hard. I don't spin it up on every outing since water conditions rarely meet 95+ mph demands, but it's always ready to as an eye opener for any passenger that says "I'm in". I've found that most passengers find mid 70's as their maximum acceptable velocity. Above that takes serious eye protection and lots of caution to the wind, besides I can count on one hand the friends whom I've taken 90+ as a passenger that want to do it again.
Bruce, what will you be putting your 2.0 project onto? Mine doesn't have a home yet. I'm still looking. Gordon

My 135 is on my 17'6" bass boat and it will run 60 mph gps as is and at 55 mph it starts chine walking and i usually cruise around 50 mph about the only thing i may do is put a set of Chris Carson reeds in it and maybe those new stuffers he has if they not to expensive. Im old gear head and reading about performance mods is interesting to me. The older i get the slower i go, kind of like slow down and smell the roses.
