Thanks for the kudos guys - I wasn't expecting it! Lol Yes, I'm really excited about it, as it is just something on my bucket list. Not useful by any means, but I'm certain it's going to scare the **** out of me the first time I mash the loud pedal! I'm good friends with the guy out here - Joe Shelfo - who is to drag hydros what Dave Bush is to drag outboards. He's the one that told me the boat was for sale, and that I should grab it - as it's one of the quickest/fastest/best setup open hydros in the country. It's a Rivas built Kurtis 501 - which is like getting a Collin's built Mirage. There are only a few of them out there, and it's the best built of the best open drag hydros around. The motor is just a Merlin block (solid) 468, with Dart 360 heads (solid), T&D shaft rockers, 12-71 blower w/ Enderle injection on methanol. It's happy at 10% over, which is around 20 pounds of boost and probably 1,400hp at 8,200rpm. The motor has lasted four full seasons of racing various bracket classes (mostly 7.0 1/4 and 6.0 1,000'), with occasional TAH class runs (all-out, 1,000'). It's also got a Lenco 2 speed with a clutch, and lots of electronics to make the boat run whatever # and mph you want, basically. I'm going to throw a new set of rods and bearings in it (aluminum rods of course), as it has about 100 passes on it and it's due. I'm going to change the gears and prop, as it's setup for 7.0 1/4 or 6.0 1,000' bracket racing right now, and I want to go all out in 1,000'. Once regeared/propped for 1,000', Joe says it should run real low 5s, maybe even break into the 4s. Don't know if I'll have the balls to run the mph it will take to get down that low, but I'm pretty sure I'll sack-up enough to run mid-to-low 5s and keep it around 150mph with the electronics. To run down to the low 5s/high 4s, it's probably going to have to be all out (no electronics pulling timing out of the motor) and running 170 or so at the 1,000' - NO THANKS! Anyway, as some of you may know, I crew for a blown alcohol KRR boat, so I'm pretty familiar with these motors now and I'm really excited to get in the seat of a blown alcohol hydro come Springtime!
And of course I'm going to rename the boat from "The Butcher" (Steve Penberthy whom I bought the boat from is a meat butcher), to "Rayzor's Edge".

I didn't get your post at first, but then I got it! I just saw that movie "The Great Outdoors" with John Candy and Dan Akroyd - and your post then had me laughing after remembering the Uncle's voice in that movie! Hilarious! And they even had a blown flatty in the waterski sequence in that movie........

For those of you with "The Texan" reference - it really brings back memories once the vinyl is pulled off! And for those that don't realize why it looks so similar - "The Texan" was a Kurtis 500!

AWSOME RIG!
Is there a certain ET or MPH where they require you to have a capsule?

Lucas oil dragboat rules won't let you run under a 7.70 1/4 mile E.T. without a capsule.

Great except for tha taf's. Think it was three, maybe four, lost count, that crashed. One being tha same guy who's crash pics were in tha "170 mph jet" thread. Ended up with a "one petal jet" winin' tha class with a 6 something......Bright spot though. Local and well known UO champ for years won PMod Championship. Congrats Marty Logan!

Kevin Kraft mentioned this boat might be available I’m currently looking for one for my granddaughter. I gave a Bitz that came from Oregon ( Larry Sanders). I’d like to talk to you about your rig

Thanks for the inquiry Rick, but I'm really not ready to sell the boat yet. I really want to stick with my original goal of getting into the 4s before I let it go. We've run a 5.03 @ 165.4, so we're right there. Since we only run the boat once a year, it might be another year or two before I'm ready to sell it. Take care.......Dale
