Everything probably got pushed into the air injectors.

Number one rule with an opti,, when it gets down to the last year of warranty you sell it and get new one with more warranty.

You need to borrow or beg someone with a set of air/fuel gauges to check the pressures.

The only revs high when in neutral could be the in gear safety switch. It is on the gear shift slide mechanism on the port side of the motor. It's a little button that lets the computer know when the motor is in gear and lets it rev up. Blue and black wires. Jump the motor side wires and see if it changes. This will not throw codes. Fairly common for it to malfunction when crusty and coated with grease. It is just a micro switch. Try this before you throw a bunch of money at it.

I have to disagree with you here, The shift switch tells the computer whether the engine is in gear or not. If the switch tells the computer it's in neutral and if you go over a certain RPM, it will throw a code of Neutral Overspeed and put it in Guardian mode and sound the alarm. Have one at the shop right now doing this. Yes, yhis could be a problem, but I suspect his problem is with the air injectors since he blew a compressor and didn't clean the system.

I know they are supposed to throw codes and beep, but I have had more than one that didn't. It prob isn't the problem. But though I would throw it out there.

Well installed new serviced air injectors today, I have air pressure and fuel pressure. Cleaned out the fuel filters and they where clean.. did a water test and boat still not going over 2k rpm under load! I'm going crazy here, what is wrong with this engine.. and no codes or check engine lite??

What are your air and fuel numbers? Is it smooth or does it shake when you push it?

If you lost a compressor you may want to take it in to a Dealer or some one that's know how to work on these Optimax engines ...as yours is getting up in the age (1999 ) not say you dont know how to turn bolts .
I for got about Fuller Marine heard they do good work and also flow test injectors .
I would hate to see you lose a power head .
