What is better oil reduced wear and rust protection vs all out power? Bridgeport
I have a new Bridgeport with many mods and 8,500 rpm capability, top pinned, re-nik etc. my question is what oil best to keep wear down vs making every last h.p. i have a light boat YT V-King and do not need to go over 7,500 Rpm's.
Previous Boats:
77' Switzer Craft 72 mph 175 hp
86' Lazer LTV 80 mph 200 hp
90' HST Bridgeport 97 mph 250 hp
86' Valero YT 80+ mph 200 hp
79' Vector 80+ mph 200 hp 85' Valero V 83+ mph/ Current 200
88 Valero YT not so fast, no good motor
NOW 85' Valero Vee 2.4 Bridgeport Carbs

OIl is over rated and over thought. There are a few that seem to burn a little sooty like Yamalube and Merc Premium Plus but other than that I just dont believe in a magic oil.
There used to be a page with all the major oils analyzed and they were ALL EXTREMELY SIMILAR. Yamalube and Merc Premium Plus had very high moly content and the consensus was its what caused the sooty burn.
I just tried to open the page and its gone now. Should have made a copy.13' Biel tunnel AKA "Flight Risk"

Some info here. I find Pennzoil to be consistently a clean burning reasonably priced oil.

Sams Club has Pennzoil Premium Plus for about half price every fall when they move it out of the Walmarts up north.

I burn 20 gallons a month in the summer time with Pennzoil Premium Plus spinning at 8k or more. But I mix it around 28:1 and I don't really see any smoke, I run carbs and the only thing that is dirty/oily is my lower unit which probably makes the boat faster which is a bonus.
If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.

If you run more oil there's less room for the gas. You'll throw off your air fuel mixture??? Do the fast guys run 28/1???

Yes it does lean it a little. Only need to run that much oil if turnin over 8. This is controversial but I do feel I make more power with the extra oil, there's many theories on it both ways and all make good since
. My particular setup does seem to run better with 32.1, I feel it has something to do with the rate of burn kinda like higher octane fuel. I do know some of the drag racers poor the oil to them. I once asked a guy about it and what I felt about the oil and he just smiled at me and told me how much he ran and it wasn't for lubrication purposes lol.
