    Question Oil, and volt meter issues.

    I just purchased a 97 Champion bass boat, with a 97 mercury efi 225. I took it out for the second time the other day, and my oil alarm went off, for the low oil, can anyone tell me why the tank in the boat, is not filling the tank on the motor? Question #2.. Also the volt gage on the dash as soon as I turn the key, it jumps over to full volt, I cant remember if the gage goes to 18 or 20, but it pegs it, and it stays over there the whole time the key is on or the boat is running, as soon as the key is turned off, it goes back to zero, any help with both of these issues, will be greatly appreciated.

    Check for bad orings or loose caps at the boat tank the system has to be pressurized. Also Check the screen in the bottom of the pick up tube in the boat tank.

    Also is the tank actually low? The magnet comes unglued from the float alot on those sensors.

    If it's at key on also and not just engine running it Sound like the gauge is junk. Test the signal wire with a VM.

    follow the oil line on the port side of the motor. There is a check valve in the side of the block which pressurizes the tank in the boat which pushes oil to the tank on the motor. These often go bad. I keep a spare in mine.

    That's where I was gonna send him next. It's a simple system. Bad orings get most people though.

    Thank you all very much, I will check all of this if I can get off work at a decent hour this evening. I will post what I find, and If it fixes it. Again Thanks. I am New to boat ownership, I have always fished tournaments, but as a non boater, and just my luck, I finally get one, and problems start.

    Make sure the oil tank (in boat) caps are tight. A loose cap will allow the pressure not to build. Also, look for splits in the hose leading from the engine to the oil tank. The hose with the blue stripe is the hose the oil flows through, the hose with no stripe is the hose that supplies pressure to the oil tank in the boat. If that side of the hose assembly has a leak, the tank will not be pressurized.

    As said before, check the voltage at the volt meter with a test meter.
