Liquid nitrogen on the piston should shrink it enough to slip long feeler gauges in place.......

First motor I built I did the same thing. Put Piston in bore upside down went to answer the phone herd a click and the rings opened up and locking it in the bottom of the bore. I didn't want to pull the sleeve and had extra Pistons so I drilled the piston out through the rod slot and threw the rings in a few spots with 1/2" bit then worked the rings out of the lands by prying and pulling them out through the rod slot. Not fun....

Its been 6 days now. Did the piston and ring finally come out?
If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.

OK I must ask, why piston on ring to check? Ring squared in the bore at different heights, measure gap. No issues, true numbers.

Sorry I haven't kept everyone updated, heading up to the Suwannee this weekend for the Ice Breaker run and have been cleaning and getting the boat ready to go. So, I haven't messed with it yet. I have been advised I could try to clean the ring and the groove really well with Brakleen and use some strong super glue and slowly glue the ring into the groove by using a glue horn from the hobby shop, and pressing the ring down through the rod slot with a small flat tip screw driver after applying the glue and slowly rotating it until it's fully glued in the groove and hopefully push it back out.
If that doesn't work I'm gonna go with the .002" 12" feeler gauges and create a ramp for the ring and hopefully get it back into the bore.
And, I have sure as hell have learned to never do something this stupid again. I really appreciate all the help and invite everyone that has any type off suggestions to keep posting.
I will keep everyone posted on how I manage to finally to get this thing out.

I guess it was wrong to say I was checking the end gap of the ring...What I did was put a new set of rings on the piston and pushed it in the bore to see was the resistance better than it was with the worn out rings by pulling it back out with a little quick force by using the wrist pin and thought yeah this feels alot better and my dumbass got happy and pushed it in to far and "CLICK" and here I am now.

The piston is out!!!!!
I tried gluing the ring and it would not harden up enough to hold in the groove. I tried the feeler guages and I could get the feeler guage to stay in place. So, I pulled out the drill and went to work. Sure took awhile but managed to remove it with no damage to the block and I sure will never ever do that again....

You need to save that garage art for the rest of your life. What not to ever do again.
Put it on a trophy stand
If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.
