What reeds and cages to use for a high performance 2.5

I have a 7 pedal front half. But what is the best reed cage, reeds and intake to use for a high rpm, heavily ported, high horsepower carburated engine?

my guess is it would be a 7 pedal with the squarish looking reeds and are all reed cages the same?

    Thanks

I would say 5 peddle cages out of a newer 280 or some aftermarket billet 4 peddles.

The high pro cages work as well as any. Mercury pretty had it figured all out.

So are the Hi Pro reeds and cages the large 4 pedal with rubber coated cage?
If so do you need to change your front half to a 4 pedal front half or does that setup somehow fit into a 7 pedal front half ?

What do you mean? I'd be happy to give you $400 for all six blocks and reeds.

Are the 7 pedal 225 pro max's good reed cages? Do they bolt up to the regular 2.5 front half as long as its a 7 pedal?

The seven petal promax are about 95% as good as the sport jets, and cost about 50% less.JMO Iv'e run both and without a clock you won't notice any difference.

    promax part # 840805
    sportjet part # 840425

The sport jet reeds seem to be a little thinner. I tried some heavier reeds (thanks Chris), but it hurt bottom end response.

I have been running the SJs for many years without replacing reeds (occasionally turning 9600 rpms with 20P prop)

The rubber coated cages are quieter, and seal better for great idle.

I bought mine when they cost about the same as set of replacement reeds.
