Nope. Starboard side only. Both of my vipers were like that. I thought it was some kind of quick access hole if someone was sitting in the seat.

Nope, not yet. Shooting for the weekend of the 28th (three weeks from today). Have to make three different stops in Canada to pick up stuff I've bought. Very psyched to go on the XS quest.

A few years ago I dropped off a 3.0L motor at a small outboard repair shop in Washington for a guy and in the showroom was a 1500XS. The owner raced it back in the day and said it was ready to run. He said it was for sale if someone would be willing to pay around $3500.00 I think.

My wife and I are racking our brains to remember the shops name or even the town. I can go back to my ad when I sold the motor if this is something you would be interested it. Here's the pictures I took while there. BTW, He was a HS nut!!!

Thanks Ron. I made a deal for one that I am hoping to go pick up in three weeks, but it would be great to know where another one is. I have found 4 so far. BTW - I really enjoyed reading about the Viper you restored. I learned a lot from that, mainly that I never want to go through what you did!

I`ve posted this before but I knew a guy back in the 80`s who was an inline Merc specialist and a damn good one to. He could get so much power from an inline it was stupid. One of his tricks was finger porting by drilling a hole just above the wrist pin then digging the corresponding port in the cylinder wall. He said it turned his inline into a monster. I wish somebody would do that to one these days. Maybe even to a T2-X. Talk about monsters!

Good for you for finding motors. I cannot find any info on the one I saw.
Yea, the Viper..... Been there,.....done that......Never again!!!! LOL!!!!

1957 miles is a haul for sure!!! It's sure worth it when you get home safely with a pristine boat like that though.

Those monster sunglasses are coming back in style these days. LOL!!
I bet you could get a trophy engraver to etch a pair of your favorite sun glasses...

Ready for the surgery to begin. I also had another XS motor find me out of the blue. It's all apart and missing the mid. I had just bought a 15" XS mid and LWPU so with this basket case I'll have enoughto build a second complete motor and have a spare lower.Click image for larger version.

A couple weeks ago on a thread here some big numbers for inlines had been mentioned. Maybe I can find it back. That mod you mentioned, I have heard of it but I don't think it was mentioned in the thread. Any more info?

Great find with the basket case XS

Funny...to the casual passer by person that pile of parts might look like junk..........I know that's what my wife calls my accumulation of "junk".

BUT...to almost everyone that frequents this website....IT'S a pile of GOLD !!! GOOD FIND !!!

That's going to be a real head turner when it's all said and done.

Thanks James. I am pretty excited about it. The funny thing is the owner contacted me out of the blue, all thanks to S&F. What a great resource!

This will give me the chance to go through one of these motors from start to finish. I have a running 77 150 I can use for parts if needed. Potentially I'll have 4 motors and 2 boats which seems kind of a waste. I know a guy locally that has a pretty nice Ventura II that he's willing to sell without power. From what I have read the Ventura is supposed to be a great performing hull with an inline 6. Too bad its kind of ugly (in my opinion).

Oh man - this is getting out of control. My wife will absolutely freak out if I come home with another boat. I'll have to sell another bike. Damn, I need to STOP.

sure could use that LWP lower to match the one I already have for the Switzer, if you want to part with it.

HI Mike - Well, I can give you a definite maybe. I offered it yesterday to the XSKid1 in exchange for his assistance in helping me turn the pile back into a complete motor. We're still talking about it, but if it ends up he doesn't need or want it, you are next in line.

cool, let me know, even if you still need a short lower we could do a little "horse tradin" with one of my shorts. I have a good shipping box. LOL. What are those extensions on the studs? was there an extension kit on the motor you got?
