Well, I searched like hell and came up with 4 different motors. Some came through S&F, others through old web leads. This one was the best overall, and the seller is a fine guy and now a new friend. Thanks to Mike, I have the solution to make the SeaStar work, and another hardcore internet search of old leads turned up a NOS dual cable steering tube. Next I have to get the Viper core dealt with, but I have a good plan for that now too. All I need is $ and maybe a divorce lawyer.

Good looking motor, surprised really. I know of a couple that good up here, but most are in use on cherry boats. So I was looking for that cyl but the whole kit with a decnt quick helm and hoses. Made in Canada but the $$$$ are nuts, no break in the price. Pack the wife , take her to the Toronto Boat Show Jan 20-29th .

Thanks, I am really excited about it. 16 months ago I didn't even know what a 1500 XS was. It looks to be a pristine survivor that has never been opened up. Original paint from what I can tell too. The current owner kept it as a show piece and never ran it. I am taking some chances, but it is a matching number J motor for reasonable $. My wife got burned out on car shows and subsequently a long motorcycle tangent, so the recent boat obsession is just not the right thing to put in front of her now. I have to pick my battles.

wow is that clean!!!!!! I am sorry but I can't come up with any reason to wait to get it. I would have been there and had it home in my living room instead of that stupid ass tree.

I have a good jeweler if you need one. I had a Cole drag hydro follow me home once, and the earrings only cost half as much as the boat did.

Jewelry doesn't cut it anymore. She would rather I fund the kids college tuition and it's hard to argue against that. So the rule I live with now is I have to sell off a toy to pay for any new ones.

Hi Mike - Now I have another question. I pulled apart my Ride Guide single steer unit tonight. I want to use the the original Ride Guide wheel I have with the SeaStar helm. It looks like it would be possible with a custom made adapter. Maybe it's easier to find a wheel that is a close copy of the original wheel. So the question is, what did you end up using? wow, that is too clean for me to comment! that is sweet! show me more!. My old Ride Guide had the square shaft and I just got another wheel for the tapered shaft on the sea star. I can understand you wanting to keep that wheel though, It is hot, mine was not nearly that clean. I think if you found an old ride-guide shaft and cut off the square end that fits the wheel, then had a machine shop mill out the center and cut the keyway it might work as an adaptor. I did something similar to that on the crackerbox I built, adapting an old banjo style wheel to a tapered shaft, it worked great.

Thanks for the good advice once again. I'll look into it. The wheel is beautiful and I don't want to screw it up. Every time I work on the boat I realize how lucky I am. It's in great condition. A time capsule for certain.

You mentioned you might get into some core work on it? Looks too clean to need much.

I hope that's the case, but I'm not going to take any chances. Even if the core is perfectly solid, I think it's worth having it reinforced and sealed up tight so I never have to worry about it.

Since you're driving up here for a few things you could put it in tow. I would be happy to take it off your hands.

I'm keeping this one. Hopefully my kids end up loving it as much as I do and it will stay in the family.
