    Yes FMP, I certainly did race in Australia. I raced short circuit, marathon, and offshore in the following States: South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales. Not all with the same boat of course, some of my boats had Black motors and some had White motors. I chose the brand of motor which best suited the class I was racing in at the time.
    My good friend raced Merc 850 (on V boat), Merc 650XS (on tunnel) and OMC FR19S-CC (on two tunnels).

    Frank, I was involved with boat racing between 1973 and 1982... or 83. I knew quite a number of racers named Peter. Smith, Dean, Morley, Winks, Evans, Bradley are just to name a few, do you know his surname or perhaps the name of his boat?     I've been reading up what I can about installing 2.5s Merc lowers but haven't found anything about installing 3.0's and wonder if that's a better fit given the bigger water pump.

    Any tips, suggestions or ideas on where I can go to learn more would be greatly appreciated

    Yes dont go with 2.5 or you will be chasing low water volume issues.
    Baja200Merk on here has done lots of conversions.
    You can install etec 300 boxes as well, I have one from Racer on a V8

    Ive done a couple 2.5 sporty to V-6 looper conversions.
    You need the 3.0 version though. They are even easier.
    You can also get 1.62 gears which I put in my 2.5's but way easier in the 3.0.

    And yeah, talk to Kevin.
    I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

    I have done a bunch also make billet shift shaft seal carrier for the Omc mid as the merc stuff doesn't fit. Finished mine a couple weeks ago 15" 3.0 sporty 1.62. It's the right hand motor for my 24 skater but the boats not ready so might as well hang it on something. Pic below
