I posted that I was looking for a 3 Liter Sportmaster case. I got a message from jsuther that he bought one from Michael Lapides. The trans was super easy and he shipped right away. So I called him up. He sent pics. He wanted $1000. I said I'll do $800. He said ok. I used my capital one credit card and wired him the money. He got paid and said he needed $500 more or he wasn't shipping it. I said I'm not paying anymore we agreed on a price. He said sorry. Won't return my calls, text messages and I'm out $800. Capital one said they will return it but I doubt it will happen.

To send a payment like that, you must have his name and address??....post his name and info up on this thread and I'm sure a fellow boater in the area will "lend a hand". If nothing else it will alert others to his name

Hi Tom,

I assume your question is directed at me. When you say "proactive", I get the feeling you're wondering why we're not banning people the very moment there are issues? I wish it were that easy. Believe me, my work would be much easier. In fact, we do ban people that have been proven to intentionally cause harm to others. However, it is not my practice to do so until I have indisputable facts from both sides. I realize that it's very easy from an outside vantage point to suggest what the proper thing for me to do is, but it's just not that simple, because every case is different. And what I actually do behind the scenes, out of sight of the forums here is entirely not known to anybody but me and the affected parties.

With regard to the present case here, I cannot comment yet simply because I do not remember anything about the person in question offhand other than that he was possibly working with a dealer. In any case, I have banned his account and IP address.

When people work hard at deception, it becomes hard to keep track of them sometimes with multiple channels running at the same time. Most people here will know that I am extremely proactive in taking measures to both prevent and resolve issues here. If you would like to offer to help us, by all means, contact me with your suggestions.

I will go back and have a look at this member to bring myself up to speed.

WHy arent you guys more proactive when there is a report of people getting ripped off? this Jsuther dude I complained directly to GREG last year and he is still on this board doing his same rip off scheme. He cost me $300 and now he is ripping off other members the same way .

Greg thank you for this action , Just a short story for anyone who forgot or did not catch it ....... There was a person taken to task called a thief and lots more as he sold a merc computer . The seller said it worked . The buyer said it didn't .... Thief was called and seller raked over the hot coals . The seller sat back and listened to it for a while , then posted that the computer was sent to a third party to put on the motor for the buyer who was told the computer was no good . This third party has been banned from this site previously and most likely had taken a working good computer and put on a non working computer and told him the buyer that he got ripped off ...... so its not easy or cut and dried . Thank you Frank, I appreciate it. I wish I had a good way of vetting people's integrity prior to permitting any activity on the Scream And Fly site but that's not possible any more than it is on any other website. As you mentioned, things are not always as easy as they seem, however, I also realize that as hard as I try, sometimes my best is not good enough.

The biggest problem we have is intentional deception, which can be very difficult to identify when people create multiple user accounts and fictitious names. Banning an IP address is a tool I have, however that is not a guarantee to keep the offending person off the site. Right now, all new registrations on Scream And Fly have to be manually approved by myself. It's been this way for a while now, which is the main reason we don't see spam here anymore. That also adds an extra layer of security in that I can sometimes intercept an attempted duplicate registration from a previously-banned user. That system creates a heavy workload but I think it's worth it.

I really do appreciate your understanding and I also want everybody to know that I make myself available as much as possible for any issue, day or night. It's always best to contact me personally if there is an issue, since I may not spot it right away if it's only posted on the forums. The current situation with the 'jsuther' is a bit strange in that he seems to have created different personalities that don't actually exist. I will definitely keep on it to prevent a repeat of this incident.

Hey Greg- all I was expecting at the time was some interest from your part to investigate. I heard nothgin back from you. It has been over a year and this scum ball has surfaced again.

To all concerned here. Please take it from first hand experience. It can get really dicey if situations like this are not handled with proper care and investigation. I can personally attest to the fact that a legal action can be initiated causing innocent people alot of money to combat it. YES it happened to me and two other members on here. When Greg banned the Crook the crook threatened suit. The crook also initiated suit against myself and two others. After it was all said and done. Three innocent people became the victims and several thousand dollars each in legal fees. The Lawyers were the only ones that won. I sympathize with Greg's position when dealing with situations like this. Its never as cut and dried as many may seem.
