Thread: are superboats still made

A friend of mine is / was the VP of Viper boats in West palm Beach.
They started out with a 17 or 18 foot flats boat like a Hewes bone fisher . Sold enough of them to add 19 and 20 foot bass boats to their line up.
Twords the end of their run , all they were building was a Sportfisher that was basically a 39' Cigarette hull with deck and tower like a Rybovitch powered by Mann diesel's .
When the bottom fell out of the market , I said why don't you go back to making your small boats again till things get better ... he said , can't make no money building little boats.
If I remember correctly , he had a nice house , new truck , bought the building , put his daughter thru collage , had a nice race car , before they ever built the first 39 ...
Guess he's right , ain't no money in little boats ....
I'd have to think there's a whole lot less in pad locking the building shut ...

Well, that seems very odd given the overall price environment for petrochemicals, so I decided to do some research over breakfast.
This table comes from OffshoreOnly, and shows West System epoxy prices from 2005:
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/a...ems-resins.jpg
As far as I understand from the table, 2005 prices were as follows:
0.98 gallons of 105-B resin: $78.8
0.33 gallons of 209-SB hardener: $53.75
Total price: $132.55
Here is West System's 2015 price list:
http://westsystem.com/ss/assets/Uplo...st-2015-US.pdf
As far as I understand from that price list, the corresponding prices are as follows:
0.98 gallons of 105-B resin: $99.73
0.33 gallons of 209-SB hardener: $78.21
Total price: $177.94
$177.94 is a 34% increase from $132.55
Gallon prices are of course different from prices by the drum, but the relative price increases should be roughly the same.
Please correct any errors you see in the above.Last edited by Markus; 11-06-2016 at 03:00 AM.

You also have to look at the cost of living, taxes, rent, etc for nys and long island, which is about ridiculous. A buddy of mine pays over 13k $ a year in taxes on the water in seaford.

Please go back and look at some receipts from 2005 and 2015 or from 2006 and 2016. What you say is very strange given overall prices for petrochemicals-based products, as well as the specific example of West System epoxy resin above.

Many would be very happy paying that!
You can say that again.
They still cry about not being able to meet budgets.....
God forbid they cut the grass and pickup litter along the highways a few times a year or send street sweepers to sweep the sand after the winter mess.....
