    Hi Blackbullet,

Yes, you can remove the old fractured and water-impregnated core, but you need to be very careful not to damage the fiberglass underneath it, since that's the bottom of the boat. Some Hydrostream Comp models did not have a core - they had six stringers though. So, yes, you can substitute a core for stringers and you will have to likely add a layer of woven roving to the bottom where the core used to be. This will add weight, however.

There are many posts here where members detailed their recoring work on Hydrostreams. Here is one from Riverman, where he recored his Viper:

Woven Roving is possibly one of the worst thing to use !! time to get out from under that rock and look at some of the newer glasses that have been around for the past 5 years or more !, if you choose and do some home work you will find you don't need stringers either !! now that's going to raise some eyebrows !!
Messing round with boats is fun !! the learning never stops ,even after more than 30 years there's always something new happening somewhere ! BUT somethings never change and some problems never go away and just keep reoccurring !!so moved into Composite Forensics , Now that something completely new !!

Use a combination of different glasses you wouldn't need a core of a small boat . THE ORIANTATION of the glass fibers is the secret !!

sorry for comments made earlier on seems the rock was not a good choice of words !
any way there are better ways of doing things and woven roving is definite not one of them!

Greg has been listening to Scott from AFR ...

For one of those big bad Vipers , I would think a layer of mat , then a layer or two of 1708 or two of 1208 with epoxy and new stringers, would do the trick.

    get all the air out,

Glasses that have been out for the last 5 years? I was working for a boat builder back in 1990 that was using stitched bi and tri directional glasses.

Forgive me, but isn't this guy looking just to make the bottom rigid? He was looking for a core substitute that would be easy. For God's sake I wasn't saying a boat should be built up on woven. A Viper is a tiny boat. I didn't get from the OP's post that he was looking to put together a composite race boat. Good grief.

Me to but have you noticed some of the small subtle changes that have happened to those glasses specially in recent times , They look identical but some the filament's don't have any binder neither does the csm and the filament's are finer and softer as requirement's have changed also as the get used in more places on more products !

yes have used it to replaces mutual layers of woven with a single Quad that was notable stiffer, took half the time to lay, and surprisingly easy to lay !
