1976 50 hp 44cid SN UNFINDABLE in records assistance needed plz
MOTOR is DATE STAMPED 1975 cowl is 1976 BUT SN is stamped 8044742 has EARLY thru cowl harness not the later 8 pin cannon plug and ADI ignition, is a manual start short shaft but was a manual remote
nothing adds up as far as SN to equipment to ignition, i have a 77 here that is same engine but it still had distributor Thunderbolt system not the ADI ...
just trying to figure out what this stupid thing is

804 is early/mid eighties USa model or an earlier Candian model
1976 was the first year for the ADI on the 50, 85 and 175.

and now the kicker, the date stamped on the flywheel block and every other part i could find on it along with the original recipt of purchase form an oregon dealer was october 1975, with dates on parts from june to august 1975 the orange coils, yellow plug wires, and wiring harness colors all point to 1976 original... and block andd mid SN match...
and now you see my problem
even the aftermarket jet unit shows a production date stamp of sept 1975 and is shown on original purchase reciept along with the original propeller lower and 14P propeller ( decessed by rock or freezing)Last edited by 150aintenuff; 08-31-2016 at 03:04 AM.

i think i may have found it... austrailian 1976 merc500 now i wonder how an austrailian built motor came to land on us soil to be sold in late 1975 as a new model year 1976 wonder if it played show circuit pass along or something to see a boat from down under or if it was fondulac built and got sent to a west coast dealer vs export... but SN falls in 1976 aussi range for sure..
