Any place to beach & swim in Wisconsin

Trying to find a lake to boat on in Wisconsin where I can beach the boat and let the kids out to play in the sand/ wade in the water. I have boated on madison lakes but I am not aware of anything. Rock lake has anice area by sandy beach but the lake is somewhat small and gets boring quick. Koshkonog is out of the question. I will not let the kids in that water. Pewaukee our home lake doesn't really have much to offer... Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Jr.

Don't know how far north you want to go but Pelican Lake in Oneida County. Nice big sand bar 1' or so deep clean water. If you come the weekend of July 23rd you can watch drag races from your boat.

    Twister,
Thanks for the suggestion. We actually have that weekend open. Was thinking about the Chain in IL. Any info on the drag boat races?

That sounds like a great option. I have been wanting to get up that way. Whats the best way finding out how to navigate the waters from Oshkosh up to Freemont..?

if you wont let your kids in kosh, you surely won't let them in the chain.
In reference to the Hydrostream Power Tour:

You may want to look at Lake Wisconsin about 20 minutes north of Madison. It's part of the WI river so it is what it is. Plenty of sandbars up river toward I94 and the main channel is well marked. There's several miles of water to run so you won't get bored either. There's a few restaurant options as well. It's not too far from Pewaukee. The closest boat landing is about 5 miles off the interstate.

I agree with GamblerSS, I like to put in on the west side just south of Merrimac, but I meet friends there. I haven't looked, but I'm sure there's access from Lodi side (opposite Merrimac Ferry). I usually meet up with my buddy from Sauk and we run north to the different sand bars. I could not believe how many people were out there!

You can run down to the dam in Sauk City, and the river gets pretty shallow for anything but jet power and small outboards north of the interstate. We used to run PWC's from Portage, down to Sauk City, back up to Wisconsin Dells, back to Portage, refuel, and then camp south of Portage. LOTS of sandbars all the way.

Big Green Lake in Green Lake,WI is pretty awesome too, about 8 miles long and being the deepest lake in WI at 237', it is also very clean. There is a bay on the west end called Norwegian Bay were it is shallow and people hang out. There are launches all around the lake, so access isn't a problem. The very southwest end has an old road bed in it, and it is quite shallow, other than that, there are some beautiful rock cliffs and lots of cool houses to look at.

I'm looking to try DuBay this year, as another buddy runs that water all the time. It is also part of the Wisconsin River and sounds similar to the Sauk/Merrimac area.

I also have to agree with Eli, Lake Tomahawk and surrounding waters are a blast. Might want a GPS on board as if you are not from the area or don't snowmobile there, they can all run together and look the same, but beautiful area as well.

Let us know what you do and how you like it!
A problem is only a problem when viewed as a problem...
