    New Evinrude G2 150 - 200

The new G2 small blocks are exciting but I'm a little disappointed in how much they weigh. The integrated steering is great and is included in the weight. But, the lightest are the 150 and 150 HO at 496 lbs. When you go to the 175 and 200, it jumps to 530 lbs. Not sure why, it says the shaft length is the same, all specs are the same. Any way, it's a little heavy but they are cool.

The 496 lb models feature the TRAC+ midsection that utilizes conventional steering, such as a SeaStar Hydraulic Cylinder or cable steering. The other models include integrated hydraulic steering with many models featuring dynamic power steering. These models also include a built in setback.

The 200HO-300hp G2's all have the integrated hydraulic steering with most featuring dynamic power steering.

The lower unit gear ratio is a big disappointment for me.

Interesting. Thanks, the website made it sound like they all had the integrated steering. I think sticking to the reg HO then makes sense then, or swapping the L2 gear case on a reg etec 200 (which is light 420 lbs) would be pretty cool.

The 200HO - 300hp G2 models feature a 1.85:1 (.54) as opposed to the 2.17:1 (.46) for the 150-200hp. They are interchangeable, gear sets and complete gearcase.

So is it possible to order the 150-200 with the .54 then, or do you have to order separately? I assume the previous models gearcases are not interchangeable as they have been since 1976.

Am I the only one that looks at these things and sees the likes of a garbage can hanging off the transom?

Not anymore, it looks pretty good to me now. Took me a while. Change is good.

Sorry, but no gear ratio options are available when ordering. You would have to order a gear set and install or swap out the gearcase.

How does the bass boat result weigh in if you have merc brp and yam 200hp engines?
    Are they close in performance?

If its going on anything getting surfaced it would be cheaper to swap it to a sporty then it would be to buy another case or gears from BRP. Then put the stock gearcase back on to go to dealer for warranty work. Drop off a G2 ill have a case on it in a week

Why not just buy a merc to begin with? Mercs have racing parts becausethey are meant to scream....they have r&d behind racing. So far BRP has focused on "interchangeable colors for side cowlings " ....wow.
Evinrudes last good motor was from '78, all downhill from there

I agree in most cases, the 250 Sport XS and 300 XS are awesome, but for those running under 90 or looking for a lighter weight motor, I was hoping the new G2's would be lighter in the 150-200 range.

The G2 250 HO is a great motor, has amazing steering built in and has some other advantages, including a 5 year warranty etc. They are more than just the cowling for sure, tons of torque, super efficient.

Scream? 6400 rev limit vs 6250? 150rpm is the difference between screaming and not. How about 7 year warranty instead of 1. Merc 2.5 promax had NONE.
