I never said he didn't dial it in, I just said someone else rigged it first and I'm pretty sure Mr Joe Alberetta of DBR owner 2, knows a thing or two and didn't do to shabby when he owned it.

And wtf does Adam dialing in his setup in props, and motor height have to do with the plumbing questions and the pickup heights I asked?

Pickup is 1/8" into waterline and cooling # and psi is fine.. Bad bend on pickup coupled with long hoses and bad strainer mounting position equated to low pressure

In all seriousness it was a good read. Should have just cleaned it up and moved it to rigging. Hate to lose good info.

IMO, keep is simple. The more parts you add the greater the chances for failure. If you plumb to the water pump it acts as a pressure regulator and you dont need check valves etc.

    Agreed .................. 99.9 %

While there's always room for a little satirical humor here and there ....
What really need's cleaning up is the cross information . This thread deal's with adapter plate entry as well as lower unit entry and few speak of which they are working with . I'd hate to see someone use slip on fittings , tygon hose and harbor freight worm clamps and test out their bilge pumps , or fry their powerhead because they used a little of this and a little of that ..

    There's my .1 %

On a 3 ltr. merc., you need to have a good double seal drive shaft seal kit or the high pressure will give you an unwanted oil additive. This the reason for the bypass valve.

I wanted to just tap directly into one of the water pump covers on my sportmaster that would be fed by a thru hull pickup. Since this would be feeding directly into the water pump would a check valve still be needed close to the pickup?

    Thanks again, Carter

    Funny postings for sure!
Lets keep in mind there is always more ways then one to do something....Use what you see or read and make things the way you are comfortable with or will work best for your application/setup.....
This boat of mine ran very well with water feed to the adapter plate with excellent result for many years with X's.
It is actually back on LI running with new 300XS's plumed exactly the same way.
Personally not crazy about case entry especially with our eel grass and debris around here....Not good but not saying it will not work well.....
PS; I do agree simplicity is always best....

I cant remember what the PSI rating was for the strainer i used but it was really high. Thats why I chose it.

I do have to agree with comments about ripping one of these fittings off. Ive swerved to avoid a lower unit striike on a log or two over the years and left some bark rubbed on the bottom of a sponson. If my pickup stuck down it very likely would have been ripped off and sunk my boat in short order. Having it flush or slightly above with a little ramp to feed it is much safer.
