So, who did we decide on for machine work? Looks like I'm gonna need another 2.5 block, front half and a set of heads. Plus someone to send it too.

Ron did great work installing a sleeve, prepping for replating all cyls and also some port work even though it took awhile. I think he had some family problems going on is the reason it went so long without contact!
US Chrome does his plating, according to him!

its not that hard to put an aluminum sleeve in, even if welding is required to fix previous damage, and size the sleeve for replating. most shops that can do a steel sleeve can do it, as long as the block is going to be replated. it apparently gets tricky installing a nic plated sleeve, as distortion can occur during install, and the plating is thin, so its not like u can bore it or square it with conventional methods.

It's not so bad . The job does take some specialty tool's and adapters . And once you break thru the fairy tails , it's pretty straight forward ...

Come on now there is all this good info out there. Like how to prep a nice round non tapered cyl so your rings will seat. What oil to break a motor in on, how many hours you go before driving it like you own it, etc, etc.
Think this thread was started because it took to long to get a motor back and lack of communication between customer and shop. In the end the customer was happy with the work performed just not the time frame or lack of communication. Hopefully the new guy is getting this feedback and does what is necessary to improve customer satisfaction and also help his productivity.

Just saying if I ever needed 1 Nic sleeve, would be sending it to Chaz.
And would wait for however long it took to have it done right.

Dave your absolutely right ..... about 99% of the info offered in this thread .. my apologies .
Ruck is a sharp guy . He knew that the standard blocks register ( sleeve holder for our buddy Tex ) is only .060 thick . One of the specialty tools he came up with a "bore jack" system to push a register round again.
The sleeve is a forging and has a wall thickness just shy of a quarter inch .
Lets say hypothetically you didn't have the equipment to bore the block or push it straight . Yet the register was out of round .002
So you install the sleeve , ( for a moment , lets forget that you have to diamond hone the hole .006 )
What do you think will happen , the thin casting gonna push the sleeve out of round ?
Or is the thick walled forged sleeve gonna cozy up and make a new home ?
For the record , from the "Advanced Sleeve" web site , pertaining to their standard as well as the two oversized O.D. plated sleeves offered to be used on blocks where the register has been damaged and bored round again .

Question for Chaz
Looking back at your post (#68) would you recommend spending the money I would need to pony up to pay you to do a similar amount of work on a old early '90s 245 small bearing block? #1 took out cyl. #2 and created some other small holes. I would want to mate it with an old 260 front half. Or should I find a big bearing block? By the way, the sealing ring surfaces appear to be undamaged.
