Cool First time I've ever photographed a lower unit like this...

Well I've taken literally hundreds of thousands of photographs of fast boats, but I don't think I've ever quite seen a lower unit at this vantage point. If you look closely, it appears that only the skeg is actually in the water.

This is Chris Cromley - Mr.Demeanor on the boards here, at the River Ranch.

I have many more photos of this boat at this angle and actually better but I am on my small laptop here and its screen is not color-calibrated so I need to wait until I'm home to begin posting images, which will be later tonight.

    This everyone

This one was shot at 200mm and 1/4000 sec, so you can actually see the propeller blades. You can tell the shutter speed was very high because of all of those water droplets that almost make it appear that he's going much slower than he actually was. We had no sun for this photo though, so I had to shoot it at very high ISO and F/3.2 to get that shutter speed.

That is a Biel tunnel, which is a very unique boat. I think Chris might be the only member on S&F that owns one.

Thanks so much for the pics Greg. I have been wanting some tunnel shots for a long time and these are amazing.

The boat is actually pretty "wet" in these pics. It was too windy for high speed passes to I was going by in the 70's.

It was too windy for the big prop this weekend. It did go faster with the little prop than it has ever ran before at 93 mph and change in a quick burst so I have no doubt it will crack 100. The weather and schedules just haven't aligned.

Thank you Chris - I shoot all my photos in RAW format in the camera with a flat color profile, so they need color correcting on a calibrated monitor to really make them look proper. I can only do that on my home workstation. I'll get to work on them later tonight or tomorrow. I actually have many shots of you. I appreciate you making all those cool passes! You definitely understood the angles I needed to get these shots. And yes, it was definitely too windy to go very fast but regardless you definitely had it running great. We had some pretty high gusts at times.

Thanks again Chris, that was a lot of fun!

    Greg
