Superboat originally rigged it with a 25" 300x. Ran 72 and like crap. Porpoised like a bastard? I then helped the guy change the mid to a 20" and a sportmaster and added a 14" bracket with another 4" hyd plate. 18" total. It then ran 77 and was more controllable. In 2007 he sold it to another guy and I rerigged the whole boat. Last year the 2nd owner sold it to me and I put the 250xs Merc on it so it wouldn't use so much gas. The wife loves it because it's not a "Prima-donna" boat. I have been offered $25K three times for it, but it would cost me over $60K (my cost) to replace it, so I'm just gonna keep it. These pics are with the 300x. I have since changed the motor, put a new custom trailer under it and a new windshield.

No one wanted that new design. The last one before that was owned by a local guy that also had a X and that was a very fast one. +-95. It's weird because most of the older ones >1990 were faster than the newer ones....I know weird. But I guess the older ones were lighter. Not saying the ones build in the 90s weren't capable of speed I know of 2 of the last ones with the old deck that were 95 mph boats with a X on Em. But everyone was different. I've owned a few and they were all a lil different. There was also a few with a notch put in them aftermarket. I've been told they don't go any faster you can just stay in it longer. I believe Venumious or however u spell it owns one with a notch and a X maybe he can comment on the speed. But I know the cc are slower and have corkie handling charictoristics but are still great boats but 77 with a X is slow. There are 24 supers w X faster than that. But they are all different. I believe randy has the white one with the red stripes and I know that boat did 70 with a fishing motor.

Some of these boat brands have lived for decades on reputation, but as far as the marketing/internet presence goes, a couple of these companies need some SERIOUS work. Potential buyers have their face in a smartphone hours a day. I know builders need to be busy building, but when a website hasn't been updated in YEARS, interested parties don't give a second look and move on. Everybody talks about the ski boats selling like hotcakes, go take a look at some of their websites and tell me at least part of the reason the twenty and thirty-something's are flocking to them isn't because of marketing.
I called one builder to inquire about a boat 2 years ago, asked for a price, gave my address, and requested info. "I'll get something in the mail today" Uh-huh. I had 25% down payment in an envelope that day and was ready to finance the rest. 2 years later, and no informational brochure ever arrived. Guess it got lost in the snail mail.... So I got on (wait for it) the INTERNET, found a similar used model in Miami, and drove there to get it.
When I found a used Progression last summer, I started looking for specific information on (you guessed it!) the INTERNET. Progression website is dated, but had good detail. Called Kevin. He answered. Talked to me for at least 40 minutes when he didn't have to about a used boat. A week later I drove to LI and picked it up.
At least 2 of the builders listed elsewhere in this thread need to be less Bill Brasky-ish, touting achievements from before some potential buyers were born, and more about what they're doing TODAY in the boating world. You have lineage and pedigree, we get it... Now show me what you've been doing for the last decade, because it certainly wasn't spent in web development classes at the community college.
rant over.

I don't have any dog in this fight....I love the look of a lot of the newer boats but I just can't justify the funds for a 3-4 month season we have here. Then I like the old style, old school lines that will never go out of style....Someone, will always be amazed at a like new 45 year old boat with new power, steering and what not and wonder why.
I spent the weekend buffing and polishing this 1971....It will turn more heads here than a 2015 boat ever will.
Granted, not as High Tech as most of the newer boats but is a way it is every bit as current with new power, Smart Craft monitor , steering.
.
I have 2 more boats to get restored 1978 Glastron Carlson CVX-20 and my Taylor Stiletto Mod VP....Life is all about what you make it and what makes you happy...I wanted this and never found that so I opted old schools stuff you just don't find today.
Honestly....I have been thinking Fins with head lights and turn signals but I wont be around that long to get everything done.

When I say that boat I didn't meant that particular boat. Just meant a millennium. There is a immaculate yellow one on Craig's list Long Island right now for 20 but it only has a 115 lol. And also a 16, 24, 30 brand new on Craig's. If they were in Florida I think they would be sold in a heart beat but up here there is zero market for go fast cc

Here's video of one of my 21 Checkmates running mid 90's. When I slow down, it's because the 300xs has already been on the limiter for 10 seconds and goes into guardian mode. With a different prop, the boat has run 98.6. Just couldn't hit 100! The boat had full interior, 1/2 tank gas, and all cabin cushions too!

There's no doubt you got those checkmates moving but where we boat you can't own one of them. I'd break one of those in a week. Not saying there made bad just not up to the offshore standard that is needed around here. It has limits. pretty yes. Useful no not for our app.

Yeah, the 19 degree bottom is a rough ride. My 21 Rallysport has the same bottom as the Superboat. 22 degree and rides a lot better.

I sent a link for the blue 30 listed in Ipswich to a buddy in Tampa. He's been looking at Concepts and Glasstreams since fall when I sold my CC.
First text back- Dude, I thought they basically went out of business a couple of years ago.
Second text back- How would I even get it here? (Sent him another link- Frank Mole Transport).
Third text back- Do they even ride good? U know those LI guys are all full of bull$#!t about waves and speeds.
I'm still laughing about that third text!

If u spent a week up here you would understand 21 degree is the bare minimum. The 24 super is the perfect boat for the bay. It's just too slow. But it's a knife cutting thru butter. That's why I'm insisting there's a market for 24 n 30 cc down there. They will cut thru anything. And with your rigging forget about it. Where are all these guys spending that money on those big go fast cc? Get them in that boat and it will sell itself. I could see you selling a dozen sbs a year. Just 24 n 30 cc. N it would take off like nobody's biz. Just your endorsement and a few test rides you will get rich. I know it. If u took a ride down the intercostal in that 30 that diamond marine in selling you will b sold. If u like the way your 21 rides forget about it. It's night and day.

The go-fast CC market isn't about racing though, it's about the 3 B's. Boobs, bling, and bass (stereos, not fish). The only place they're "racing" to is the next sandbar. When a buyer doesn't realize Collin Farrell isn't Sonny Crocket, you think a bunch of trophies from the 80's and 90's are going to seal the deal?
I know which one I'd rather own.... But I can take a guess at which one a new buyer in his 30's with disposable income would rather spend the day on (and it ain't the one with the girl all bundled up).

So what the website looks like sells a boat? Wow that's insane. I'd think he would rather be on the faster one. No broad is gunna know the difference between a glasstream and a superboat. She will appreciate the Louie bags and Gucci shoes the superboat buyer buys her cause it's prob 50 k less lol

Who even knows what a turnkey SB 30 goes for when the website has "new boat specials" from the 2011 lineup?! That's 5 years for those of you keeping track. Superboat builds a nice boat, but the average guy that sees one at the dock doesn't know that, so he goes to the company site and sees 2011 info and thinks "well they're closed, guess I'll go look for something else or a used one." Or worse, he sees the 2016s on CL after he sees the company site from 2011 and immediately thinks "title fraud/scammer".

Lots of production I/Os, CCs, and inboard skiboats are selling new off dealer and boat show floors. Ain't because they won offshore races. Ain't because they're rocketships on the water. Availability, financing, marketing, and customer exposure would be my guesses as to the higher sales. If the performance builders in the market keep doing what they did 30 years ago, more of them will cease to exist, and that's not what anybody here wants.Last edited by Spdrcr29; 04-05-2016 at 12:34 AM.
