Talking a old friend (middle 70's now) today shop BSing. Both agree the younger (he has grand children, girls) should NOT do tattoos, spikes in the face as elsewhere "piercing" as they have a beautiful body and face as it is and God did a fine job you so STAY THAT WAY! Leave yer body alone, and lay off the "fork", and ya won't NEED to lose "belly" fat. Guys can get away with being Ahab, but girls?....don't be a "Fatima". Ray Stevens says it well.

Saw the Airplane put on a free concert at Greynolds Park East in '69. The 2 nights before (Fri. & Sat.) they played at the Newport Hotel Lounge in Sunny Isles (Miami Beach & 183 st.). Sunday afternoon, for free in the park. RIP, Paul.

    If you believe in forever,
Then life is just a one night stand.
    If there's a rock & roll heaven,
Well you know they've got a hell of a band.

Spent some time looking through some of this thread, Robbie. Saw your post about seeing Deep Purple in Germany along with some other bands. I only saw Deep Purple once, about '70 or '71 at Palm Beach Intl. Raceway. Another multi group show - Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult, Savoy Brown &...........wait for it.......
Billy Preston. Not sure how the promoters felt that Billy fit in that grouping, but he ROCKED! He didn't open the show, Savoy Brown did, Billy second, Deep Purple next, then Blue Oyster Cult closed it out. All that for $7!!

Woodstock.....I was visiting my father's side of the family in Rochester, NY that summer. My cousins & I talked about going, but decided to stay and go rabbit hunting instead . My aunt & uncle lived on one fairways at Oak Hill golf course (where the PGA has a tourney every year), & my cousins had permission to hunt with pellet rifles after the last golfers had played through. Can't imagine that being allowed today!

Savoy Brown is one of my favorite bands, always liked blues. I have Blue Matter, Shades of Raw Sienna, A Step Further, Outside Looking In & Street Corner Talkin' on vinyl. Back in high school ( middle/late 60's), kids thought I was weird cuz I listened to BB King, Leadbelly, Howling' Wolf, Robert Johnson - old school blues. The "British Invasion" bands were mostly doing old American blues standards. I got curious who the names were in the liner notes concerning the song writers. Once I found out, I was hooked. Rock n' roll is awesome, but blues just leaves me feeling like the artist just left a piece of himself on the studio floor. My all time guitar/blues hero is Johnny Winter, may he also RIP.

On the "Blues" HA! I'm a LARGE blues fan! And almost all "remakes blues" where done long ago old blues artist. I know Muddy personal but long time ago spring break Daytona FL. I sat backstage him some small club and at the time I had no beard, just a curly head hair, stach and girls thought? "Thats Jim Croce!" Gotta go with the flow ya know!
But in Chitown as we would go downtown to the "B.L.U.E.S" club North ave. The white part north side, and I sat back stage with the Jimmy Johnson blues band then and all black, but friends. Even been down to the "Checkerboard lounge" southside the good part after ya made it though the "projects monkeys". Kinda seeing all the great pass on though and same age most us? It aint forever, so use it up. But this is one more gotta do, and far as I know, only Roy has passed on. Can't beat a smokey bar joint..(or bet smoke a joint in the bar?) When we had fun...
Roy Orbison performs "Oh, Pretty Woman" as the finale of the Black & White Night Concert. Backed by Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, James Burton, Glen D. Hardin, Tom Waits, kd lang, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, JD Souther, T Bone Burnett, Steven Soles, and Jennifer Warnes. Recorded September 30, 1987.

On Jimmy Johnson Blues band? Sat back stage behind the drummer then, Kieth. It was the "tiny spoon days" and while he was drumming, tap his shoulder for a nose candy. Got a grin and a smile and he NEVER MISSED A BEAT! Can't find much his YT, but I got the vinyl. Simple great blues from them. And some great DAMN great times then!

This? "bands were mostly doing old American blues standards"... Yep, but the hair bands sure kicked it up a notch! My brother was a 50's rocker and as ten years older than me, as a kid I heard all the old "do wop" groups. Plus him and dad had a first year vette that I was "babysat" in cruising! Plus my mom and dad were "polka freaks" Big band music fine with me too! Heres 50's to 70's "explained"

Every Sat/Sun night here KPLU public radio does "all blues" 6 hour non stop 6 to midnite! John Kessler the DJ. Damn some the best old blues from long ago! On the shop noise now. Heres Robert Johnson, Willy Dixon, and RL Burnside younger than them, but "carried the torch"..on..and blues will live forever.............Last RL.."Every thing here is broken"
