She's gone.
Passed in her sleep, first thing this morning. She was home at my sisters house w/my dad by her side.
We did the right thing by getting her out of the hospital and home to be w/us where she was at peace.
She kept asking to go home and we all believe that's what she meant and it couldn't have gone any better.
I think she wanted this so she could die w/those she loved and not in a hospital.
To make it to 95, and all but the last few months good ones......., who could ask for more?
She lead an amazing life and taught us all, a lot. She believed her mission in life was to raise, nurture and take care of her kids and they were her life.
My dad just recently admitted when he proposed to her she said yes but only if he gave her a large family. He agreed and gave her 5 of us.
She lived long enough to see grand kids, and great grand kids.
Told Cheryl I intend to deal with this like it's a wake, where we celebrate her life instead of a funeral where we mourn the loss.
Everyone I've ever had in front of her has fallen in love with her. I have a picture from 6 months ago where she is sitting in a swing with Cheryl, hand in hand,a huge smile, dressed to the nines, including matching jewelry, make up and hair. That was at 94 1/2 yrs old!
Thanks mom. You taught me a lot, I will miss you but you've done your job and its OK to go home.
If we could please keep the prayer chain going and shift it to my dad........., who has refused to leave her side through all of this......., we now need him to start worrying about himself and to get strong. His muscle mass is gone after sitting in a chair beside my mom for the last 6 months.
Thanks much to each and every one of you for the prayers and well wishes.
We have an AMAZING family here at Scream and Fly!

Their life sounds like the American dream to me.

Gods speed and my prayers go out to you and your family Gary. May your father find solace in these days as well as all of you in y'alls family.-----------------------

Sorry to hear this Gary, can't imagine what I'll do when I lose my mom. My dad passed 17 years ago and I still miss him daily. You might have had some mixed feelings about moving back north again, but being able to spend more time with your mom and dad I'm sure has all but eliminated any doubt that life put you in the right place at the right time.

Very well said my friend.
That was on our minds when we made that decision.
Today we go try and help console my dad who is full of anger due to how it ended and what my mom went through.
In his mind, she spent the last week of her life being humiliated and tortured while she laid in bed unaware of life itself.
My sister who's been a hospice nurse for 28 yrs told us the story of trying to find a vein in a dying man when he told her, "we used to get old, get pneumonia and die. Now you poke us full of IVs and keep us alive for you".
On top of this, they were staying at an assisted living facility that had an alarm in moms bed in case she tried to get up and the aid forgot to turn it on the night before she fell.
So he's struggling to be able to grieve and not sure where we go from here.
The belief is, it's fairly clear she was ready. When she got up out of bed on her own and spoke clearly, when she hadn't been able to for months..., it was her minds attemp at saying good bye.
Dad may be moving in with us.
Thanks again for all the well wishes guys.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

God bless your mom. I sure believe she will still be watching over you of that you can be sure.
I only say this out of experience. If able bring your father home to live with you. My mom and dad lost their home in Superstorm Sandy. My dad was terminal with multiple cancers but not really showing any symptoms when they moved in. He lasted 7 months and was only bed ridden the last three days. Being able to give him comfort in those final months was the best thing we could have done. He was 88 and lived a good life. My mom is 85, in great health, and will be with us the remainder of her life.Last edited by vnemous; 01-10-2016 at 08:57 AM.

Thank you sir. We're working on it and bless you for what you did for your folks.
Hes staying w/my sister for now. Shes in process of loading him up and taking him to church. He and mom have attended same church for yrs and has a great congregation.
Average age is 35 - 40 so when my 94/95 yr old parents walk in, dressed to the nines...., they think Elvis has entered the building
They celebrated their 73rd anniversary there and it was standing room only.
Its a great sign that he wants to attend. The congregation will all be in tears.
Snowing there like hell so hopefully the old man doesn't bail.
Sis says he took his first long shower in yrs and came out wearing his "Sunday going to meetin" (his words) pants w/a hem that he stapled in them
(our father the engineer)
First time in yrs hes cared what he looks like.
We have work to do to make our house work for him. 2 story, 90 lb puppy etc, etc.
Would be a great thing for my sis too as they have been her life for the last 2 yrs.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
