    Jackie,

Its looking like I might not be attending either as I believe that I told you that my wife & I are guardians for our 7 year old grandson. His deadbeat father is threatening to challenge the court ordered visitation so thats my priority. In addition it doesn't look like attendance isn't going to be good enough to even have the BBQ. So, can you advise Betty that if I drive up (it's an 1 1/2 only drive for me) that she can release my models to me? And, how do I remit to you for the one for me?

Sorry Jackie, but as you know what family priorities are all about.

OFF is a tremendous opportunity to meet some amazing people and legends of racing history and boating---- for me as an individual who never raced but watched, attended, read and grew up during that time it is an incredible experience- then you combine it with CRA fall vintage event with ex race boats running - it becomes a double knockout- must see and attend event in my humble opinion and that's why I drive 24 hrs one way to attend!!!!!

putting on which? the CRA does the boat event, I remember you being unhappy that your dad could not get in the pits, go to the covered picnic area and speak to the registration people, eather a waver has to be signed or just join as a family membership for a few dollars that helps the effort of the club and get your wristbands and your in. just need to be respectful of safety issues like crane operation and such. you will definatly get your money's worth and help the effort. as for the golf and cookout, last year I had the pleasure of meeting Bill and Betty Baker who arranged the tournament and opened their Beautiful Home to Sir Jackie's friends for an outstanding feast (Betty's potato salad is the best I've ever had !) follow the previous posts for info on that, Thanks Betty for responding and Bless you guys for having us. Fun Out (AKA, Keith Hughett)

Hey Betty, thanks for clearing up the details, the Princess wants to play also and we intend to set the record for "HIGHEST SCORE EVER" but all in good "FUN" I'll be calling you this week, look foreward to seeing you and Bill again, thanks Keith Hughett

Fun, I appreciate the reply but that is absolutely not true, at least in our experience. We bought the wrist bands, signed the waiver and got jerked off. We never were able to get in the pits despite paying for it. I understand there needs to be safety rules and be respectful of the crane, we were even understanding of them not opening the pits for an hour for whatever reason when they turned us away the first time. even understanding when they moved it back a half hour after that. even understanding when they did it for another half hour after the previous move back. then again....etc. But the reality is my dads back is busted up pretty bad from all his boat wrecks back in the day ( i am sure some of the real racers, not the checkbook raceboat owners, who had boats there can relate). 3 hours is a long way to drive with a bad back for a trip down memory lane just to stand around for a couple more hours and continually turned away and never even be able to get near the boats. When off was at cadillac's it was the greatest boating event ever, the event last year was the opposite.

All i asked was if it was the same group putting it on because if it is i wasn't going to waste the time and money to attend an event that is more like a private club that you stand on the outside in line looking in and the bouncers keep jerking you around. I had no plans to bring up last year, just trying to make a personal decision. I love ya like a brother fun, but the little fluff piece above about just buying an arm band and signing a waiver to get in could not be farther from the truth and anyone thinking they can go see some really cool boats, maybe even see some boats they raced back in the day is misleading to say the least if the same group who put it on last year is doing it again this year. That is simply not how they operate in my experience last year.

i am sure you are right with the part about becoming a member; in retrospect it appeared that if you belong to the club, you could come and go as you please. however, if you dont have the member armband, in my experience from last year, it is a complete waste of money as a spectator and fan of vintage racing... Why not just call it what it is, a club that gets together to hang out and socialize with each other with their really amazing vintage boats, there is nothing wrong with that. But pretending this is an event for the public, even a public that probably has more hours in a race boat than the vast majority of the members there, is misleading. just my two cents brother, i hope you're doing good.

Fish- I am sorry you feel this way- personally I have been to 7 events this year - all on my own $-
I had to take a lot of time off ,hotels, a lot of truck gas, sunk, spun out 3 times , ran out of gas, broken a mid section, ssm (totally destroyed), broke a blade and trashed a propeller, had to replace wiring, batteries, all my gauges -why - so people could see a wing and to see the wing run and to promote vintage outboard- I live on a lake and being an outboard can run any time which I still do- I even drove to an event 8 hrs+ one way, took a day off work , 2 nights hotel only not to run as they would not let me ramp launch- -I could use this money for other things- I appreciate the opportunity these events allow me to get out to let people see the boat and see it run especially with other wings- it is a huge undertaking to run one of these events and TAVARES through CRA is a super event- without events like these the wing is just running on a lake back home - Ted

Ps- and I am just one person of the 70+ boats that will attend Tavares that have similar stories and higher costs $- a small Fish in the pond you might say

Pss- isn't the whole world becoming a social club? - I have to be a member and dues just to be on this website ......Ted
