All us old guys will remember it as that great race to Palm Beach and back----

    Hi Ted

The last time we ran the 'ditch' was 1966: The records set by Johnny Bakos and Dave Craig in the wooden wings will remain unchallenged

    Back then I was running a 13' Allison with a 50

'73 I was running the 'Bird' at PHYC

Spun out on the last lap---sound familiar?

I had forgotten that some of the GCM races were also called Sam Griffith Memorial

Sam came up with the idea and promoted the first GCM in 1949---

The first time we ever saw the Stack Cats running was at the around Miami Beach race, I think it was the July 1960 race. Mersereau, Bakos, and Odell all had Stackers on PowerCat Bubble cats. The formation area was at Watson Island, and the stacks, these were six pipers, made so much noise you couldn't even yell and be heard. Loved it. Gene may have the finish results, I don't. The sand fleas went nuts from the stacks. People were running away from the swarms of them. I never saw it before or after..amazing and memorable.
