Very true! I will say that one of the fun things about owning a superboat, is that at least once a weekend you hear......'hey, I owned a superboat back in the early 80's, I loved that boat......is John Coen still running things?" . Then when you tell them yes, you get some JC story out of them.....good times

Doc- I do believe my 24' was the first step bottom 24', and John jr told me over the summer he thought it was the first step 24' as well. overall, I loved that boat and it was a machine in the bay. I was never scared off by a rough chop in that boat. I did have to use tabs on it a lot more to level it out, especially in a cross wind, it loved to lean into a cross wind, but it was a great ride. Of course, you felt it more being a smaller boat, especially those tougher landings, and it was definitely more 'jumpy' then the 30

The 30' is a different beast all together though. it just gets on top and goes. My top speed in the 24' with sportmaster was about 72 mph I believe and it did a consistent 68/69 when I changed over to the fleetmaster lower (although it was a little more nose happy with the fleet I felt). The 30' can cruise at 75 mph all day and pretty much through anything I throw at it. I like to do the ocean run from fire island inlet to jones inlet, and its rare that I say "not today". Its not nose happy at all, and the twins eliminate most of the lean problem by offsetting each other (my neighbor has a 30' cc with the single Suzuki and he needs to use a lot more tab to level it out in a cross wind). but overall, it slices though pretty much anything, and it stays 'locked up' on the water pretty well, meaning, its not jumping out all the time. one of my big concerns when I had it built was going from a 'stand up' style set up to a 'sit down' style, I have a bad back and liked standing. But John Sr and I both felt a standup bolster at the higher speeds was not a good idea and went with the sit down style. It hasn't mattered in the least, its very comfortable and if anything, I prefer sitting now.

I think the big difference I found between the 24' and the 30' is that it took me a little longer to get used to throttling the 30' in a following sea/wind. In those conditions, it definitely wants to jump out a little more, which is probably a product of more speed as well when comparing it to the 24', but as I got used to it, it just became a matter of throttling at the right time and I also experimented a little more with the tabs this year and that helped alot, and now its not an issue.

The other difference I have found is that the 30' likes a chop more. I never really felt like the 24' reacted that differently in the flat water vs a choppy water. The 30' definitely likes the choppy water more. runs great in flat water, but with a little chop, it just adds a little extra kick

    btw.........LOVE that challenger of yours!
Thanks ! and Thanks for your 'actual' water running review ....I like hearing about 'real world' experiences, they really help get a better feel for these great boats.

Only thing better than building a boat with them is racing against them. Once you have won their respect (beat them) they are the coolest competitors in the world.
