So what's the story on the #15 Venus?

Ok william back to the serious sh-t . There was only ever one OZ Cosworth, that was the one i took to Parker.
All the ones before that were genuine 2 Litre BDG Cosworth inboards run with a sterndrive running in the R3 class.

Back to the real beginning-----Three university students started Cosworth engineering-----
Bill brown was the only one of the three interested in boats and was a middle of the road driver.
Mike Costain was a glider pilot of international fame and very good at it.
Keith Duckworth was the brains and driving force behind the company.

Brown was a UIM commissioner and an RYA officer who also used to scrutineer and measure the race boats.
We became good friends and after much discussion decided to put an inboard package together.
I would supply the stern drive and props and ancillary gear and he would provide and maintain the motor----we would buy the hull between us and share the running costs---great idea.
Went to Freddie Miles and he came up with the hull.
"twas nearly there right from the off---quite rapid---handled well---and was on the pace of most of the top runners--but not quite up with the "Factories".
Things ran smoothly for the first few months and then two events saw things deteriorate rapidly. The first was when Carlsberg stuck up £25,000 sponsorship, which Bill decided he was going to keep and go it alone.
The second was at the Rotterdam race when he was in the lead after the first one and a half hour leg----but somehow managed to drop the boat off the crane and smashed all the engine mounts and was unable to finish.
He then informed me he was going to race it in Amsterdam-----that should have been my next race----sooooo--as you can imagine ,i was not best pleased and he should put both pickles of "VENUS" as far up his rectum as was humanly possible.
Chas Shooter and i boarded the trusty 250 Honda that we made the trip in before the next heat started and made the UK shores in record time .
Was in Devon on the Monday and did a deal with Roger Hooks widow Sandra bought the Scimitar and had the boat in the garage monday night.
Went up to Northampton and bought a brand fire new BDG Cosworth and over the next five days and nights cobbled a rig together with Chas and my mates.
Turned up at Amsterdam in time for drivers meeting----but too late to practice.
Needless to say---- we justified all the effort---and i beat Bill Brown in every event that we ever raced together thereafter.
He lost the sponsorship to Bob Spalding

..... I was thinking that all of the Cosworth's you ran were "outboards" for ON or OZ. So what kind of speeds did the R3 KT's run? Were they all Cosworth /MerCruiser combo's?

Is this what you bought next and took to Amsterdam?

That,s the one William ----Named it. "It' s a duesey" after the first time in the water in the harbour at Amsterdam, did pretty good too---- ran at the front for the first 75 mins and then split a hose and pumped the boat full of water . Yes --- both factories were there, and all the names except Cees, he was the officer of the day.
Won the second hour and a half stint from Hans Pelster.
Arrived home Monday night around midnight and suffered my first heart attack----- I was 44 years old.

Great to see a picture of that Scimitar inboard boat Jackie after all these years i think it may have been Amsterdam 1975 at 19ft long i bet it loved rough and windy conditions how come you only ran it a couple of times?.The Carlsberg sponsership went to Peter Thorneywork factory OMC driver in 1977 but he had a serious accident in the Chasewater 500 mile race he rolled his Couger on the Straight` went through the side of his cockpit he cut through his ribs top to bottom and punctured a lung and was out racing until 1978.

Garbrecht had taken over all the sponsorship deals----Bob should have been running Martini with Tom, but GG made them run with John Player
The Scimitar was made for the rough water in Amsterdam and was the quickest rig there ---including the factories
A dutchmen chased me back to England for the boat and i sold it to him for a stupidly obscene amount of money.

Jackie, when you said Brown got the Carlsberg sponsorship then lost sponsorship to Bob Spalding you got me thinking.
Have you ever seen one of these? Would this Corgi replica be a copy of your original Miles/Cosworth/Mercruiser?
If I ever have the pleasure of meeting you in person I will show and probably give these to you if you would like them.

Bill always had his eye to business and did a deal with Corgi to produce zillions of the white "VENUS". Seen dozens of those ----but have never seen a red one with Bob's name on it.
That's a strange one seeing as how Bob never ever got in a boat with a 2 liter Cosworth in it, He jockeyed both Mercury and Omc factory rigs, but as i said before never got his bum in an inboard.
Far as i know there were only ever seven Cosworth rigs ever built and i did five of them,
Roger Hook never got his project finished.
Bill Brown built the "BILLY TWO RIVETS" alluminium, avec la removable sponson disaster after our 'misunderstanding'.
The rest were all done by yours truly 'WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS' as Mr Mc Cartney used to say.
John Nicholson was on the verge of cobbling one of the boats i sold him With one of his own Maclaren Nicholson motors ----but did a deal with GG and came away with half a dozen T3's and a mountain of spares and was nearly quite successful.

Is this number 3, I think Oulton Broad is written on the back? How come most of the pics seem to include outboards, just testing when they were taken?

William, you have to remember Oulton broad was Bob and Tom's own playground----they were both factory drivers --- and this was their home club ---------and one of the biggest kicks i used to get , was mixing it with those two. They were very big fish in a tiny pond at Oulton.
Contrary to popular belief they were both very good friends of mine, Chas Shooter who was my mechanic and great friend was their crew chief after i quit racing two liters.
Number 5 is Roger Jenkins , the Jonrood is NELLY GREG, me in the number 4 , and Percy in the number 10, I think this was '94---so Bob would be based in Oshberg and probably wasn't there.
You had about 3 hours to get the racing over and done with before the tide went out at a rapid rate of knots.
Meetings were either every other thursday, afternoon or evening if memory serves me right.
Great little club----seeped in powerboat racing history----specially hydros.
    Loved racing there.
