Thanks Bob.. Looking at the date, it has been almost exactly 40 years! My wife spent a few years in New York, and to this day thinks the New York Times is the only newspaper worth reading. In fact she only agreed to marry me after I showed her this clipping!!--nearly 30 years ago-----

It has been over 40 years, technology has accelerated beyond belief, speeds on the water have doubled, but nothing will ever be quite as spectacular as you piloting Red Bird with that pair of BP stackers. Some images are quickly forgotten, but watching you fly Red Bird at wide open throttle is a memory that is indelibly etched in my mind forever - Thanks for the memmory!

I did some searching and found that Lou Cooley in this boat did win the 1968 Mississippi river
Marathon setting a new record of 29hours and 5 minutes for the 1068 mikes from New Orleans
to St. Louis Mo. This probably represents the last major race win by a Power Cat boat that
I am aware of. He did run in the 1969 Havasu Championships, but I don't think he was among
the finishers.

According to a Havasu race program that I have Lou Cooley finished in the top 30 with a twin Chrysler rig in the 1970 race. That must have been one of the best finishes for Chrysler in the OWC. The Havasu race programs have some cool pics in them.

Does it say what boat he ran in 1970? I had previously thought Bill Hill from Alabama to be the last Power Cat run in a major event with his 1969 Havasu entry, and then found that Lou Cooley had also ran that year. If either one also ran a Power Cat in 1970 it would be new information for me.

The text next to the pic says he finished in the top 30 with twin Chryslers on a Kitson but the pic shows a Molinari with twin Chrysler stackers. It is a white boat with Chrysler painted on the rear cowl in large letters.

Danny- I do not have the 1970 Havasu Program, regretfully! Maybe one of our members does & could help (by sending a photo copy) a couple of poor historians, trying to preserve history, for future generations! My Havasu '69 Program has # 8 Bill Hill entering a 22' Ron Jones with triple Mercs! # 115 is Lou & Dorthy Cooley in a 20' Power Cat with triple 135hp Chrysler Stackers! Interstingly enough, Dorthy could be the only woman, to ever race at Havasu! The '69 program has a picture of # 105 "Big John" with what looks like triple Chryslers, on a Power Cat! Hope this helps!

Hey Danny and Mark---always glad to help a couple of poor historians, especially if it is about 'Hot Multi's!! I have the Galveston program, May, 1969. It lists Roy Reeves driving a 21' Style Craft, 3 Chryslers. That is the boat that ran over the top of Jim Mertens at the start of that race. Also says he finished seventh at Havasu, November, 1968.
