Revolvers?
You might want to ask an FBI agent why they don't carry them anymore.

Well the little Red Dot from the Laser on their chest sort keeps the round count down....Not that I am cheap or nothing as I will pull the trigger a 3rd, 4th or 5th time if needed and then reload too.

Never been in a gun fight except for with a bunch of unruly armadillos. I have driven through the “hood” several times if that qualifies me for anything.
I want my preparedness to be the last thing on my mind.

Did anyone know that self defence guru Massad Ayoob has never been in a gun fight?
I have a friend that recently stopped an armed robery with his licensed concealed handgun and last I heard he's fighting to get his LTC back.NRA Life Member

HA, grew UP in the 60's, Chicago burbs, the "Mob's" kids were my friends, and many times drove through the REAL rough hoods..(west side was the worst, NOT, the south Chi, .."Projects", heading to the south side, "Blues Bars", where blacks were to whites, 100 to 2..(me and a crazy GF.."we gotta go to the Checkerboard Lounge!" And later, Nam, 1969..and I will tell ya RIGHT NOW..under "duress", in a few seconds, one gonna die..(Al,.. get into Paintball games"...see just how fast ya are, against some "threat", and ya know whats coming...not a "street fight", unknown who, what, where

It is my understanding, from what I've read, the average civilian gun fight is in the evening, at around 15-20 ft. and only 1-3 shots are fired. If ya think about it, for the average law abiding citizen a gun fight is going to be up close and personal, happen fast and be over fast. Other than an odd situation, I cannot see the average person being in a drawn out gun battle. If ya read the section in the NRA's magazines that has newspaper and TV news accounts of private people defending their homes and sometimes business it's a very short fight with very few shots fired.
I posted in this thread and others in the past about the two times I've had to draw my pistol to defend myself. Once against a mugger and another against a car full of "bad guys/gang bangers' trying the bump your car and when ya pull over they carjack ya. The first one was in the worst part of town where I live. Because the company I work for had our spare parts storage at a "U Lock It" in that area and being on 24hr call we go there at all hours. The other time was on an isolated part of a State highway in Texas. At the time I was dating my now ex-wife who was a dispatcher for the county S.O. and the deputies and troopers said they were trying to carjack me.
In both instances as soon as I pulled my pistol the situation ended and they did a fast 180* turn. After talking to the law about it they said I read the situations right and did the right thing. My .02
I believe preparing and training yourself mentally on how to read a situation and respond is as important as know how to accurately draw and fire your weapon.
I've read a lot of Massad Ayoob's articles on self defense. He is on TV show called Personal defense, I think. Here's a website with some of his writings---> http://www.backwoodshome.com/ayoob_index.html
Here is more excellent input on the subject of civilians and defensive shootings. http://www.pulpless.com/gunclock/kleck2.htmlLast edited by CDave; 01-18-2011 at 01:48 AM.

I have read countless people on the right way....the only right way is to go out and train yourself. Go to the range and practice, start shooting IDPA, IPCS, NRA Action Pistol.
Next is a mind set one has to learn and ingrain in ones thinking just like driving a car or riding a M/C...Who is where, what are they gonna do next and just in case where is my out.
Do ya want to crash your car, do ya want to lay your bike down, do you want to have to draw your gun and I dare say no one here wants to do any of the above.
Be aware of your of what is going on around you and keep your space while walking in a mall, on the street or where ever.
Watch people and learn body language....Bad Guys don't practice, Bad guys are nervous and will be overly anguish and Bad Guys for the most part don't want to get shot either.
On an average SD encounters where a handgun is drawn and fired is 3 to 7 yards and either time to end the fight or find hard cover.
You can't train enough and it is when you think you are good to go is when the bad guy gets you.
Next deal is get a good knife, Auto or Assisted Open but that is a different post all together.
