I didn't buzz through all the pages, but it sounds like you're thinking revolver, and that's great. Look into J-Frame Smith's, the LCR Ruger, or even the SP101 Ruger which are all good revolvers.
I will ask why you think you want something 10oz or lighter? Have you pocket carried one for any duration or just from reading made this decision? Lots of good reliable guns fit your need. When you go light weight, you gain felt recoil, it's a balancing act of comfort.
I'm not sure I myself would want to rely on carrying something in .22, but I won't volunteer to stand in front of you while you pop a few off either. If I were to carry daily,, either my Springfield XD 9mm Sub Compact or my full size 1911 in 45 due to not owning a pocket revolver. However, a pocket revolver is on my list, more specifically the Ruger SP101. It's heavy, but I wear a good belt, and with a good pocket holster, seems fine from my test runs. Also a nice IWB holster makes them disappear just fine too.
Food for thought, good luck with your decision.-Dustin

I carry a Glock Model 30 which is 45 acp. I carry it in a Galco in the waistband holster. I also have a S&W Airweight in 38. S&W also makes a 357 in the same frame as the 38's. Most of the small revolvers with bobbed hammers will fit in your jeans or shorts pockets nicely. Watch out Al. Good thing you waited until now to purchase your first handgun. Guns are as addictive as boats, bikes, cars and puzzy! Keep up the good work on the MEGA thread.

We should start a big guns for rednecks ROBBY!!!!! Really though I want a small very light piece...I plan to carry 24/7... All of my friends with 357s and 45s got sick of lugging them around all of the time so they are in there safes and unloaded...Rather have a mouse gun ready to rock than a macho gun thats useless in a safe!! I forgot I have another problem
I am very tactile sensitive..I cant stand anything in my pockets...Not even a wallet...I keep one credit card and my license with an elastic as my wallet...Any change or bills must be in the other pocket
My car keys need to hang out and the fob at the top of my pocket only
No joke...I was accused by some bimbo of showing her really bad porn pics on my cell phone at a Christmas party last year...My wife grilled me hard about it and then she realized I couldnt have cause I never carry it with me due to my pocket phobia!!

I carry a slim clip in my front pocket because I don't like the bulk of a wallet and don't want my money stolen. The reason I carry a 45 is because my 50 cal. would print under my shirt. I don't care about the weight, but more about stopping power. I would only consider carrying my .22 mag derringer as a backup. I've had friends (SLED) shoot assailants at point blank range with 38s' on to have the perp continue to beat the chit out of them. Shot placement is key. Make sure if your going to shoot somone with a .22 or .38 that you shoot them in the mouth, eye, nose ear etc. and more than once.
My chit for brains old man tried unsuccessfully to shoot himself in the forehead with his .22 marlin. Bounced off his forehead and into the wall. Make sure you have the right weapon for the job. I have 5 .38s' that I consider backups only. Checkout the Glock model 27 in .40 cal. Very compact and light.Last edited by bulletbob; 01-06-2011 at 03:06 PM.

FYI Al, I'm lefthanded also. You can adapt to any revolver or auto. Please all of you that are carrying now. PRACTICE...PRACTICE.....PRACTICE....drawing, reloading, clearing jams, but with a dummy gun preferably. You would be shocked how many people shoot themselves accidently.
