Help me pick a handgun

I carried a .380 on my bike road trips. Nice little piece, aint gonna stop a charging bear camping the wilds Montana, but might scare it off! But like said, run a couple hundred rounds through it, with all spare clips too. I had one clip that was no good, jammed.
On .22s with slugs? Aint gonna stop a 250 pound 2 legger with a meth head going, but I know what will. Face plants, with .22 Long Rifle, "ShotShell". Like a reg shotgun shell, only way smaller, one round has maybe 50+, tiny balls, .050 (3/64ths).

You stuff that in someones face within 5 feet, start plugging away, and they gonna get "eyeballed out fast", and its what ya want to do is incapacitate the 2 legged threat, then use your 2 legs, to "beat feet". But I would only use in a wheel gun, (mine in 9shot .22 Taurus wheel, here in the shop)..as the cases like to expand, and don't just fall out, a reload.

Depends just where ya going, possible threats. Lots of neat pieces mentioned here though. But will say this, if ya gonna carry, ya really don't want to feel it, just know its there..ya don't wanna walk around with a brick, in yer pocket.

And now that mentioned, how many have old "Guns and Ammo", mags? Remember that dude, Massod Ayoob?...dude was a MASTER, home/personal defense ..wrote a monthly column..let me look a link..

I 'm sure like alot of you I have owned and carried , practiced , and plinked with most of the formentioned models and brands , with the exception of a few high end 1911 style 45 acp,s the glock is a real performer , but my favorite out of the box , and dollar for dollar choice is my taurus millenium in 9mm and 32 auto . and in my opinion the most miserable disappointment ever held and fired was springfields XD

I have a High Standard 22mag derringer and its one nasty mo fo. When we did handgun penitration on body armor the 22 mag almost always had better penitration than the other handgun rounds. I shot a car battery once with it and you couldnt find a piece of the battery bigger than a playing card.

Get a pocket rocket, Some not bigger than a dam old flip lid smoke lighter .22 over/under 2 shot, shot shell the face....run like all get up...bet ya win the race..

My novice thoughts so far>>I have a few friends with rifles and pistols unloaded in a locked safe in there bedroom. Thats great if your a collector....We had the the Petit home invasion in CT a couple of years back..It made world news and I aint to far from where it happened...I want to carry with something very light to wear so I dont mind having it on me at all times...kinda like a tiny tampon to a maxi pad...WTF is a locked unloaded 45 do ya' if someone invades your home and need to get get to it...I would rather have a 22 ready to rock 24/7...I have checked a few models mentioned so far...To big to heavy...But again I am a novice!!!

Gun safe for collectibles, stored hunting rifles. I have zero crime where I at, but at times, some Cougar, bear, wants my dog outside, stuff gonna happen fast. And when time counts, this old Nam vet still ready. Shop, 38/hallows, outa site, but reach me easy, also the 9 shot .22. House, 44 Mag under the bed, all wheel guns, full load, and the closet gun,,Mossberg 12GA, #6 shot in it..(I think?) "Combo", short barrel, Pistol grip, and any safety is off, full load, just pump, and let loose it. Having an unloaded weapon is useless. But if ya got kids, wife, better TEACH THEM WELL FIRST...and a SOLID...never touch! Education ...and let them know WHAT to do in a "threat"..(and one more here Al, suggest big time, ya got any shooting ranges near ya, go get involved, ask questions...hit a few meets, ask away, boaters, gunners, bikers, muscle cars gearheads, not much dif...real people, always ready to pass advise. And most the stuff ya wanna buy over the counter, full buck, well, theres many others, who have been there before, bought the whatever, and will let loose much less. Ya .."gotta get in the fold first"...they know whats what...(damn, remember when the pawn shops had weapons in a glass case, full view, .."how much that one?". $50?, OK, cash and out the door. ) Times sure have changed, BUYING weapons, but the laws now simple suck, for the responsible..ya know damn, well, "when they outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns".........

I've been in two situations where I've had to pull my pistol and in both situations that was all that was needed. Situation ended as soon as they saw the pistol and they did a 180 and left the area. Please educate yourself on what is considered a justified shooting situation where you live.

The compact or sub compact XD's, S&W M&P's, Glock 26/27, Walther, Sig, HK's, Ruger SR9c's are all nice and reliable... I recommend looking at everything..

Yep, my new carry gun is a Springfield XD sub 40.
I installed a Dragon fire match barrel and a Laserlyte rear site.
For a 2-1/2" barrel it is incredibly accurate.
