HST transom installation: how did they do this at the factory?

    Hi,

I wonder how they laminated the transom of the HST back in the day. I think there are 3 options. Anyone know how they did it?

1/ Laminate transom in the deck before putting two halves together
2/ Laminate transom in the hull before putting two halves together
3/ Put two halves (deck and hull) together and laminate the transom from the inside

    Thx

3/4" ply in the deck, 3/4" ply in the hull. Top deck and Hull joined together and then a full sheet of 3/4" ply running across both the topdeck/hull seam for a total of 1.5" thick ply plus the glasswork.

Mm I think mine was full sheet only. But maybe I'm wrong.

Are you 100% sure about this?

    Thx

I know the AE-21 was built that way. I spoke to John Spaeth up in Canada regarding the build and strength of the transom on the AE-21..I could only assume that the HST would be similar. It's much easier to laminate a sheet of 3/4 ply to the top deck and another sheet of 3/4 ply to the hull while they are apart versus crawling under the rear deck and attempting to do the same...but you will have to crawl under there anyway to laminate the second "solid" sheet of 3/4" ply that would cover the seam between the top deck and hull....

If I remember correctly, The transom wood was laminated into the hull first then the deck was put on and the rest was glassed in.

Thats possible. Although I think it would be better the other way round (first laminate the wood in the deck because this is a larger area)

    Thx for your input.
